The Almost-August Announcements (July 30, 2013)

Post date: Jul 31, 2013 3:54:23 AM

Hello Again Parents.

It was very nice to meet some of you (and your kids) at Morgan Park on the 19th. From what I can tell at a distance, this seems like a happy and comfortable group of 7th graders and I feel confident that they will thrive amidst the challenges and opportunities that the upcoming year can and will provide!

Since I wrote to you last I've been able to go backpacking with my daughters, run some technology trainings for teachers, and build gates, garden plots and planters around the yard. There certainly have also been quite a few too many hours spent doing absolutely nothing (important) at all! This week I am a part of the County Office of Ed's science, math, literacy, and technology workshop and I'm accruing a wealth of ambitious ideas to implement during this upcoming year.

The classroom hasn't received much of my attention this summer, and as school gets closer, I'll be spending a whole bunch more time making it a welcoming, comfortable, and efficient environment. If any of you are willing to help with some construction or wiring projects, here is a page on my site the lists a few of the bigger classroom projects. Any day and/oir evening between 8/11 and 8/14 would be great -- let me know if you have any interest in helping out.

Below are a few reminders and items to add to your calendar (some are described in more detail in my email of 7/9)

1. My thanks to the 11 parents who filled out my survey about their kids (Hunter, Audrey, Devan, Nathan, Ryan, Naya, Liam, Kinsey, Katy, Russel, and Ali). I'd love to hear from the rest of you before school starts. Here is the link to the "About Your Kid" form.

2. If you are into school-prep and/or shopping mode, here is the school supplies sheet for our class.

3. Parent school-wide work day is 8/17 from 9:00 to 1:00

4. School starts on 8/21 and the middle school mixer is a few days before that (in the evening). I don't know the date... sorry.

5. Cal-Coast Walkabout for room 25 is October 8, 9, 10, 11

6. Yosemite trip for all 7th grade is April 7-11, 2014

Thanks for reading this email and please respond with a "hi" (or more) if you like. My next email newsletter will be in mid August, and it will be to/for the students themselves, but I'll cc you on that one if you like. Until then, I hope that the rest of the summer goes well for all of you.

Chris
