Happy Friday All!

The Week in Review:

In order to give the kids a good amount of class time on two long-term projects (poster and expo), I didn't add a whole bunch of new curricular material. We did learn about the properties of waves by playing with Slinkies, jumping ropes, and oscillating 40 feet of rope at various speeds to produce a great display of nodes and standing waves (video).

Coming Up: Next week the kids will apply what they've learned about waves to the specifics of sound. They'll experiment with sound conduction, amplification, synthesis, resonance, and harmonics. Chapter 21 test on Friday (which HR25 will take during afternoon core because they have a breakfast buffet during the regular science time -- yay Vonny for setting that up and yay to the parents who are brining in the food).

Conferences: Next week DCS will be on half-day schedule in order to provide time for the Spring Conferences. The conferences happen in homerooms and students will be showing parents the work from all of their subject areas as well as reviewing goals set in the Fall, and working with you to troubleshoot any foreseeable roadblocks to their assimilation into the learning environment of high school. Here is the conference sign-up for room 25. Although these conferences are optional, I'm looking forward to seeing many of you during the week as your kids have much to share and be proud of. Students from HR 22 and HR 23 will come to room 25 to get their science work (which they should have organized yesterday).
