Rafting

Overview:

The rafting trip is a 3-day 2-night adventure. We spend our nights and mornings at Whitewater Excitement's camp near Coloma, and raft the South Fork of the American River each day.

River Rafting Meeting

-all 8th in 25, 10:00 to 10:40

1. overview of the 3 days

bus/car, meals, parents, freedom & safety

2. what the rafting is like

rafts, oars/paddles, vest, helmet, suit

guides & commands

3. boat groups

index card with 1, 2, or 3 names on it

your name, written by you, only on one card

4. tent groups

owners of tents are hosts and fill names onto spreadsheet

tent group have to stay stable during the trip unless we move them

5. swim survey and release form

I'll send out a survey, you'll rank your swimming ability 1-5

1=pool swimmer, need to stay where you can touch bottom or wall

2=can swim all over pool, need wall to rest or feel secure. Lake/ocean up to waist

3=can tread water for a few minutes, ocean waves & temperature ok short time

4=can tread water a long time, ocean waves & big lakes & cold water ok 10+ minutes

5=same a 4 but with lifeguard training and/or strong competitive swimmer

release form must be filled out completely and not turned in last minute

1:00 SunSplash Water Park, Roseville

5:00 Arrive at Whitewater Excitement's and set up camp

5:00 Room 26 prepares dinner

6:00 Dinner & group meets about guidelines

10:00 in tents, quiet voices

10:30 camp is silent

Thursday 6/7/18

8:00 Room 29 prepares breakfast

8:30 Eat breakfast & prepare lunch

9:00 Meet rafting guides & get orientation & bus to Chili Bar Dam

10:00 Raft SFA upper River

3:00 Arrive at camp, free time until dinner

6:00 Dinner (by room 26)

10:00 In tents, quiet voices

Friday 6/8/18

9:00 Breakfast by room 29

9:30 to 11:00 . Free time and/or games

11:00 lunch (rm 25 to prepare)

11:00 Raft lower SFA River

2:30 Arrive Folsom Lake. Shuttle bus back to Camp Lotus

3:00 Arrive camp. Load bus & cars.

5:00 Dinner on the road

7:00 Arrive DCS

Since we hire a 61 passenger bus, we'll only need one mini-van owning parent per classroom to drive and chaperone.
