Hello Room 25 Kids and Parents,

This was a beautiful warm weekend and I spent a good portion of each day out in the garden or jogging. I also spent just a bit of time doing schoolwork -- reading "Gift" essays and current events and atmospheric pressure diagram descriptions.

For better or worse, there isn't anything super important to add for this week's newsletter, except to announce that Samek won the Geography Bee for our school and will likely head to the state championships!

Below is an email copied below about a June 14 all-8th party at Saratoga Springs and below that my the calendar items. So, have a good upcoming week!

Hello Parents of 8th Graders,

I know many of us are reflecting upon what a very special and connected group of kids and parents we have. A few of us are hoping to have a big party where we can all get together with the kids and celebrate our time at DCS.

We are working on a party for Thursday, June 14.This is the day after graduation. This is not a school-sponsored event, but an attempt to include everyone who wants to join in a celebration. Family, teachers, staff, and friends are all welcome.

Saratoga Springs has provided a contract to us, and before moving ahead we need to know if we have enough people who are interested. We need 80 people who are definitely interested to make reserving this space worthwhile. If we have that, we will also need to collect most of the money up-front (by Feb 10) to put down deposits.

Here are the details:

What: a Graduation Celebration under the redwoods in a beautiful location. Think tall trees and stars...

Food: Included in the cost for the evening is a Pasta dinner with various pasta options, plus green salads, cole-slaw, fruit salads, cookies, plus unlimited beer, wine, and soft drinks.

When: June 14 evening

Who: 8th-grade families and friends

Cost: $42 for adults and $38 children (12 and under). The cost includes the food, alcohol, tip for service, tax, DJ and tip for DJ, the setup and clean up (yeah!), plus the use of the beautiful grounds to celebrate together for the evening. We just get to show up and enjoy!

Donations: We may have a few families who are interested in going, but can’t afford the cost. To cover that, we are asking families that have the extra discretionary income to consider donating $20 (or more if you can!) to help others afford to come.

***If you love the idea of this party, but would find this to be a financial hardship, please contact Angela Webb at angela@thewebbsonline.com. This information will be held in the strictest of confidence. ***

What do we need from you?

- Please reply to Teresa (fissfamily@yahoo.com) if you would like to celebrate together in this way.

- we need the number of tickets you would purchase, and if you can donate, please also let us know. We need to collect all the money by 2/10, so please respond quickly.

- Once we have the number of guests needed to guarantee the space, we will follow up with one more email to collect money and information on how to send in your payment.

Please contact someone on the “party team” if you have additional questions.

Thank you,

The 8th grade party team -

Monica, Esmeralda, Angela, and Teresa
