Plants

Unit 6: Plants

December 15, 2008 to January 16, 2009

Overview: Life on this planet would not exist if it weren't for plants -- they supply all food and oxygen. We started by sorting the diverse types of plants into groups and discussing the characteristics of each. Next, we identified the general parts of simple plants and their roles in nature. Looking at the roots, stems, leaves and flowers of more complicated plants showed how logical and efficient they can be. The abundance of plant life all over the globe can be explained by their adaptive reproductive and seed dispersal strategies. A sense of "plant appreciation" should have increased during this unit, as well as respect for our interdependence with those quiet green miracles from which we eat and breathe.
