Summary: Each student will create a single scrapbook page that portrays the events, attitudes, or accomplishments of their summer. I'll provide the 12"x12" paper, sheet protector, and some (few) stickers or decorative elements, BUT a good scrapbook page needs much more personalized elements than that.
Materials: So the kids should bring things that can represent their summer. Below is a list of possibilities (in order from usual to quite odd)
photos -- see message below (bottom of page) about an option for getting them printed.
printed phrases -- quotes or sayings
brochures from places you visited or images of places you visited
stickers
pieces of paper that have colors and/or patterns you like
wrappers or pieces of product packaging
movie or show tickets
pieces of maps
things that add texture... cloth, sand, leaves, felt
pages (copied) from books
foreign stamps or coins or bills
The Process:
View some sample (finished) scrapbook pages (I'll have a list of links to samples)
Browse the paper that I have and select 1 or 2 that you like and fit your intended theme
Experiment with various layouts on and off the paper
Consult with someone else about your idea and get their feedback and extensions/contractions
Tape or glue (sparingly) down the pieces, keeping them as flat as possible. Avoid squeeze-out.
Make sure that your name is somewhere on the front and back of the page.
Put your page into a sheet protector

Unless you have access to a photo printer, it would probably be a pain for each family to go through the process of getting just a few pictures printed. So, I'd be happy to get everyone's pictures printed all at once, probably at Walgreens. If you would like to add some pictures to the "to be printed", please go to www.dropitto.me/chrisheumann and enter the password "heumann", and upload your pictures. On Tuesday night, I'll upload those to Walgreens and have them printed 4x6. It is only $10 for 75 photos. :)
