Watch & Learn: Review our phonics and high frequency word instruction for this week with Mrs. Brzeinski!

Practice: Read our High Frequency Word reader Jim and Kit 2 times aloud to a grown up or sibling. After completing the second read, choose two new activities from your Sight Word mat for today! Don't forget to color in the boxes as you complete the challenges! The words we are specifically reviewing this week are: for, have, they, of, said, want, here, me, this, what. If you want to practice all the sight words we know so far, that's great too!

May Do: Choose one or two of the leveled readers to practice with below. These get harder with each book, so try the first two, and then the last one is the most advanced if you would like to give it a whirl!

Try to recognize your 5 vocab words from this week while listening to this story!

Watch & Learn: Watch the video above for vocabulary instruction and the story A View From The Moon.
Practice: As you watch, listen for the new vocabulary words: distance, recognize, space, challenge, and surface. Make predictions with a grown up about what you think the story is going to be about. After listening to the story, tell your learning helper whether or not your predictions matched the story. If it did - great job! If it didn't - that's ok! Think about how the story was DIFFERENT from your prediction and tell your learning helper this!
May Do: Read for 20 minutes or do Lexia for 15 minutes.

Math

Watch & Learn: Students will watch Mrs. McCool's teen numbers mini lesson on how to put the booklet together!
Practice: Print out the third page of the "Teen Numbers Booklet" worksheet and continue counting and writing teen numbers! (Note: Think about our 10 and extras routine!) Now it is time to put the "Teen Numbers Booklet" together. Watch the video below of Mrs. McCool giving a brief explanation of how to cut, sort, and staple the booklet!
May do:
- Teen Numbers Chain: (Your child can make one chain of their favorite teen number. Make sure to write out the equation before you begin so you know how many strips to cut!) You will need two sets of colored paper. If you do not have colored paper your child can color paper two different colors or do two different designs! Each set of 10 will be one color and the "extras" will be another color. Cut the colored paper into strips or you can have your child cut the strips. Glue one strip together and then loop the next strip through and glue, continue until you have a group of 10 and then start looping and gluing the "extra ones."
- Use Zearn/ST math (whichever your teacher uses) for 15 minutes.

Writing

Watch & Learn: This week we are continuing to learn how to be opinion story writers- “We are Opinionators!” Listen to the story "Duck! Rabbit" below.
Practice: Do you think the animal in the book is a duck or a rabbit? Why? Think of 2 reasons to defend your opinion. Tell someone in your family why you think it's a duck or a rabbit.

3. Get to work: Write an opinion story defending why you think it's a duck or a rabbit. Your story MUST include 2 reasons why, and you must use the proper mechanics for good writers: capitals, spaces, and punctuation! You can do it kindergarten!
