Christmas in Wales is accompanied by a lot of traditions: houses decorated with candles, lights, flowers and blue branches. Traditional dishes include: roasted turkeys with vegetables, pudding, baked apples and flat cakes. The nativity scene in Wales is a representation of the

birth of Jesus, which has Italian origins. The traditional nativity scene is a complex

composition of the Nativity of Jesus Christ set up during the Christmas period. There are statues made of various materials and arranged in an environment reconstructed in a realistic way. All the characters and places of tradition appear there: the cave or hut, the manger where baby Jesus is placed, the parents Mary and Joseph and the Magi . The figurine of baby

Jesus is placed in the manger at the stroke of midnight between 24 and 25 December, while the figures of the Magi are gradually brought closer to the Nativity scene, which reach the Epiphany. The background can represent the starry sky or it can be a landscape scenario.

Sometimes the various local traditions provide additional characters. By tradition, the nativity scene is maintained until the day of the Epiphany, when the statues of the Three Kings are placed in front of the sacred family. There is also a living nativity scene in which real characters act.

La statuina di Gesù bambino viene collocata nella mangiatoia allo scoccare della mezzanotte tra il 24 e il 25 Dicembre, mentre le figure dei Magi vengono man mano avvicinate alla scena della Natività, che raggiungono l’Epifania. Lo sfondo può rappresentare il cielo stellato oppure può essere uno scenario paesaggistico. A volte le varie tradizioni locali prevedono ulteriori personaggi. Per tradizione, il presepe si mantiene fino al giorno dell’Epifania, quando si mettono le statuine dei re Magi difronte alla sacra famiglia. Esiste anche il presepe vivente in cui agiscono personaggi reali.
