STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) have always been an important part of education and played an important role in the UK's fortunes as an industrial nation. In recent years these skills have taken on even greater significance as the world has evolved to become a global marketplace and technology has evolved at an ever increasing pace.
If the UK is to continue being a leading industrial nation it is necessary to address a national shortage in these skills and encourage students to pursue future careers in this field.
Cynffig is proud to be doing its part by being involved in STEM education at all levels and by offering stimulating extra-curricular provision through clubs such as the KS3 Inventors club and through the prestigious Engineering Education Scheme, Wales offered to Year 12 students.

The James Dyson Foundation is a charity with the goal of raising the profile of Science and Engineering amongst young people in the UK.
During the Covid-19 Pandemic, the trust have released their weekly 'Engineering @ Home' Challenges. Each contains a short 'how-to' video and a downloadable instruction booklet. Each challenge is doable with only the most basic of resources such as glue, string, straws and cardboard. Each should be achievable in under an hour and provide great fun as well as being interesting.
For close to a decade the Royal Academy of Engineering has been at the heart of engaging with STEM educators including a close relationship with Cynffig Comprehensive. Their aim is to provide stimulating educational resources free of charge and promote engineering careers across the UK.
This section has a range of STEM club resources with a focus upon blending the lines between science, technology, mathematics and engineering. All of them are great fun and full of topical, intelligent and engaging things to do.
RS Electronics have produced a series of STEM lessons titled 'ImagineX'. Included are lessons about sustainable design, designing race cars and the design of prosthetics.
