The department houses a single medium duty 13mm pillar drill in the general purpose workshop. This is available for use by staff and students (under one to one supervision). It is used for general drilling operations in wood, metal and plastic.
The drill is located plugged into a 90 degree twist-lever type mains isolator switch. The mains switch is to be in the off position and the cover is to be closed in the locked position when the drill is not in-use. The key is located in the key-safe in the staff office.
The drill must only be operated by trained, competent individuals and students under the age of 18 must be supervised at all times.
The risk assessment and maintenance checklist for the drill can be found below.
