There are hand files located in classroom 1G2 and the general purpose workshop. These can be used by students as well as staff.
Hand files come in a range of 'cuts' and 'profiles'. At Cynffig we generally use 2nd cut files for general smoothing operations. Profiles most commonly used are flat, square, round and triangular. There are also a selection of warding and needle files available for smaller, more awkward to reach areas.
As with all tools and equipment used by pupils, they are expected to observe a practical demonstration before being authorised to use them themselves. Learners must prove that they can use them safely and competently. It is the responsibility of the user to ensure that the hand file is cleaned using the file cards after use.
Hand files are checked regularly by the D&T technician for damaged blades or handles. Any defective files must be reported to the technician so that they can be repaired or taken out of service and replaced.
