This unit of work is worth 50% of your final grade. It is very important.
Take me back to the construction homepage.
In Year 10 and 11, you will have the opportunity to help transform school spaces as part of the construction skills element of your course.
In Year 11, the skills you have been practicing will be formally assessed. This is your opportunity to put into practice what you have learned.
Here is the formal assignment booklet for Unit 2 (the practical component of the course).
You will need to sign a candidate declaration form to verify your work is your own. This is below.
It is extremely important that you know how and what you will be assessed upon for this course so that you understand what is required of you to get the grade you deserve. The document below lists the assessment criteria for this unit. This will be discussed in more detail in class.

This is the controlled assessment task we are currently running in Year 11. It is based around three practicals skills: bricklaying, plastering and electrical installations.
A kitchen garden will help provide fruit and vegetables for cookery classes as well as provide an outdoor seating area for future Cynffig students.

This is an example of the method statement which you will have to complete for all three of the practical skills activities for unit 2.
Whilst it may look daunting, considerable effort has been made to cut down on the amount time that you will have to spend creating documents & writing.
Sections in black or grey do not need to be changed as they are automatically filled out for you as you move through the tool.
It is important that you make a copy of the tool for each separate practical task. Do not try to edit the embedded document here!
Save your own three method statements in your Google Drive 'Construction' folder. One for each practical skill area.
The 'method statement' spreadsheet is set up to calculate the cost of a specified material, but it will not calculate volumes or areas for you.
If you are going to try and achieve a merit or distinction then you will have to show your workings out, by hand.
For this there is a blank worksheet. Make a copy in your drive by clicking here.
The slideshow on the right shows the common formulae for area and volumes used in construction.
