Hot-melt glue guns are authorised for use in all available D&T classrooms provided some basic safety precautions are correctly observed.
Students must be shown the correct method of using the hot-melt glue gun prior to being allowed to use it themselves without direct supervision.
Only glue guns and glue sticks sourced from the D&T store supply may be used.
The nozzles must not be left directly touching the material or table surface below.
The glue gun must be switched off at the wall and the plug removed after use.
The glue gun must be cleaned periodically to remove excess glue from the nozzle. This must be done with the glue gun switched off and cold.
Paper must be placed beneath the materials being glued together in order to protect the tables and benches from getting damaged.
High temperature gloves will be provided.
