Soldering operations are confined to a single classroom, 1G1 where the solder station is situated at the rear of the classroom by the east facing bright, naturally-lit windowed area.
The department uses Weller, 35 Watt, 425C, low-voltage soldering irons with replaceable tips.
Students are permitted to solder without direct supervision provided they have been shown how to do so safely and competently beforehand.
There is a fume extractor and magnifying glass permanently situated by the solder station. Fluxes are not permitted and only rosin-free, lead-free solder is to be used.
