Making big decisions is never easy and there are upsides (good aspects) and downsides (bad aspects) to everything. Nobody who decides to go off-grid, makes that decision without thinking really hard first.
Browse and watch the YouTube video playlist attached '30 Reasons to go off-grid'.
Complete this activity: 'Advantages and disadvantages of off-grid living. (Click the image or link).

The disadvantages - 'Downsides to living off the grid'.
IMPORTANT
This activity is intended to raise awareness of the amount of unnecessary waste that is created by us in our modern lives. By recognising the amount of materials that are used, the amount of processing that is required to make them and considering alternatives that produce less waste. It is not something to be embarrassed about. It is a topic of discussion.
Make sure your parent or carer has given you permission first. They may want to supervise you doing this. Using a pair of gloves (to protect your hands from dirt or anything sharp):
Take a photo using your phone and email it to your HWB account.
Create a new Google Slides file:
Add a title 'How much waste does my household create?'
Before you put a bag of rubbish outside, take a quick look inside and:
Write a short list of all the rubbish. Add internet search images of the items (not a photo of the actual rubbish itself). What is each item? What is it made from? You could label your image with this information.
Count the number of items that are made from plastic. Count the number of items that are made from more than one material. Write this information down.
Count how many rubbish bags/items you have put out for recycling this week. Write this as a sentence; e.g. "In my house we created 4 bags of recycling this week".
Add another slide:
Explain in a paragraph, what you think happens to these items after the council has picked them up?
Write a summary of your thoughts about the impact do you think your family (and others) have upon the environment?
