Manufacturing an Engineered Product Using Hand Tools

What will I be marked on for this unit?

There are three grades awarded for this unit: Pass, Merit and Distinction.  Your teacher will assess you according to the following criteria:

What activities do I have to do?

You will have to:

(1) PLAN a making task - (2) DO it - (3) REVIEW (evaluate) it

You will complete the assignment by completing the following tasks:

1. Plan the manufacture of the product by:

   • Identifying the making tasks required and sequencing them in a logical order.

   • Identifying the tools and equipment needed, the dangers of each and the safety precautions to be followed to avoid injury.

   • Identifying the critical points in manufacture, including the checks required to pass quality control.

2. Carry out the manufacture of the product.

   • Taking photographs of you carrying out each making task and writing a short 'making diary'.

3. Evaluate:

   • How successful is your final product when compared against the engineering drawings?

   • Your own experiences and progress:

     1. What did you find difficult? Why?

     2. How did you overcome problems?

     3. What could you do differently?

     4. What advice would you give others?
