Send and receive messages

Smartphones are expensive right? There is a cheaper way to send messages over the airwaves. Use a MicroBit! This series of activities will show you how you can even send encrypted messages over the airwaves to send your secrets without anyone listening in.

When you have finished your script, test it. You should demonstrate your working message sender to your teacher to show your progress.

Initial Task

Send a simple text message by using the string command

Screenshot your working code and create a detailed write-up, explaining how it works, the function of the block-code and how you overcame any problems.

Is anyone there?

Extension 1 - Create a two-way message sender.

Add a screenshot of your adjusted code to your initial write-up and explain how and why it has improved the script.

Not much of a conversation was it?

Extension 2 - Create your own 26-letter alphabet code and send an encrypted message over the airwaves to a working partner.

Did your partner receive the message? Did they correctly decrypt it and understand what you were saying? Were they able to reply with their own message?

Add screenshots to your write-up and explain how and why it has improved the script. You should also explain how you overcame any problems.
