The 'Arduino' is a family of electronic microcontroller boards. They are very popular, inexpensive to buy, easily programmed and can be used for many, many different types of electronics projects.
We use the Arduino 'Uno' in school but there are also many more available.
Arduinos do not have a full featured operating system like a Raspberry Pi and so cannot be used as a computer but they are programmed in the same way and can be used as a low power consumption controller.
