"Dusk at the Mustang Circle"

Mixed Media

I used fluorescent colors to show how the light is illuminating the otherwise shadowed areas within the architecture. Both the sky and the ground are blurred in order to emphasize the center focal point. The tree is used to symbolize growth because of the light that has drawn near it.

"This Light of Mine"

Relief Print

I used a range of colors from white to black in order to emphasize how the light shines on the features of the woman's face. I learned how to show the values of the face from a very different light source angle than I've ever seen before.

"Watch and Learn"

Colored Pencil

This is the first piece I've ever done in Prismacolor! Getting the skin tones right was the most difficult part about this piece, but in the end, I learned a lot about which colors would have the most realistic outcome.

"Secret Garden"

Acrylic Paint

Self Portrait - creating a metaphor to describe something personal to the subject of the piece

Each flower represents a different place I've lived in: the hibiscus for the Philippines (center), fireweed for Alaska (bottom), and the bluebonnet for Texas (top).

"A Study in Value"

Graphite Pencil

For these two pieces, I really had to push myself to use the full range of values in order to achieve the most realistic outcome. Distinguishing the darkest shadows from the lightest highlights in real life made a huge difference.
