Pig Mug
- Organic Clay & Glaze
This mug is my favorite ceramics project that I have created so far. To create this animal mug I used clay to create a pinch pot. I then added more coils by rolling out clay and slipping and scoring them and adding them on top. I made sure that the height of the pot was longer than the width so it would look like a mug. I then drew out a pig, so I would know how to create the mug. I pushed out the cheeks and nose, and I pushed in the eye socket. I slipped and scored a little bit of clay to create the nose and pushed two circles into it by
impressing the back of my needle tool. I lastly created the eyes by rolling up clay in two spheres and pressing them into the eye sockets. I used clay to create eyelids over the eyes. Finally, I used paper slip over the cracks in the clay. The emotion I have tried to portray in this mug is happiness and liveliness. I tried to portray this emotion by not covering the pig's eyes too much, and I made the pig's cheeks angled upwards, so it looks like the pig is smiling. My goals for this project is to create a usable mug that looks like and has pig features. I was successful in reaching my goal. I have learned that when I have a visual to go off of it is easier for me to create and turns out better. Overall, I am satisfied at the end result of this mug, and I enjoyed the process of making this mug.
Face Mug
- Organic Clay & Glaze
The face mug is the first mug I have ever created. I used organic clay to create this totem mug. I first made a pinch pot then added more coils by slipping a scoring them and adding them on top. I made sure the mug’s height was more than the width of the mug then I pushed out the clay for
the mouth and eyes. I scored the clay to add the lips and eyebrows, and I impressed the back of my needle tool to make the eye. I finally scored and put slip on the top and bottom sides of the cup to attach the handle. Emotions inspired my artwork. The emotion that inspired this artwork is grumpy or sleepy. This expresses a social issue because when humanity is tired or grumpy we don’t function as well. We don’t always focus and when we are grumpy we focus on the bad instead of good. I created this mug because when you can drink coffee out of it which will make you less sleepy, and hopefully less grumpy. After you drink out of this mug it is a reminder to try not to be grumpy after you drink out of this mug. My goals for this project was to create a realistic face and visually pleasing mug. I also wanted to create a mug that I would enjoy drinking out of. I feel like I completed part of this goal. I would enjoy drinking out of this mug because it is funny to look at, but the mug is not perfect or that realistic. I learned about myself that sometimes when things aren’t perfect or symmetrical it affects how visually appealing I think something is.
Line Sculpture
-Pen, Paint, and Paper
This was the first 3D project I ever created in this class. The colors used were black and white. The walls are black. There are a bunch of different kinds of lines in this artwork including diagonal, curved, horizontal, and vertical lines. They are all drawn on an E which is 3D. The shapes that are used include circles and rectangles.
The lines are used to lead the viewer's eyes into and around the artwork. There is also a place that the viewer’s eye can rest on the artwork that was created by the lines. It is black and white to keep
things simple, so the viewer can focus on the lines and not the colors. I used a lot of diagonal lines to keep things exciting, and I also used curved lines in some places which keeps the artwork graceful. The artwork is used to make the viewer feel excited but also it looks graceful as well. The most important part of this piece is it is the letter E which is the first letter of my name. This artwork makes me feel calm, but it is also very active. For the most part I really like this piece because I enjoy looking at it and the lines move my eyes around the whole piece. The only part I don’t really like is the back lines are a little messy. There is also a lot more white space on the back which is not as appealing to the eye. I wish I would have made one of the line patterns on the back a little darker and less messy. Other than that I am proud of this piece of artwork.
