3D Pentagon

Back Side
When I first see my artwork I notice that it is a pentagon. It is also only black and white, has many zentangles and patterns, and uses many variations with line. I also notice that there is a star that is glue onto one of the sides.I see the line variation being used in making a lot of different and unique patterns. The lines are used to make all the patterns pop among each other and to also create lots of variation so that every line is just not the same. The shapes in the patterns are all different too again leading to more variation. Also, the star that was glued onto one of the sides is where the eye rests on the piece. In the artwork, there are many different types of patterns being used. I see a lot of curved lines straight lines for the most part. The piece makes me feel good by being able to look at it and see what I accomplished after working on it for the few last weeks. This artwork says a lot to me because of all the patterns being completely different including all the lines ranging from curved to diagonal, to straight. Also, this is kind of new to me so I see a lot of learning in this piece. I do like this piece of art because it was pretty easy to make and I think it is pretty cool to look at. The best thing about it in my opinion is the first side that I did because I think that all of the patterns on that side really balance out each other. The worst thing about it is for sure all of the smudgings that messed up a lot of the patterns.
Organic Coil Pot
Clay and Glaze
Close Up
I see organic patterns throughout the exterior of the pot. I also notice that the entire pot is made out of coils. I also see a lot of organic round and concave shapes around the pot. The pot is made up of a lot of horizontal lines. The pot also contains many different types of shapes. The shapes are all organic. There are some that are round, concave, and flat. The flat shapes add a lot of contrast to the pot because the flat pieces go against the coils that the pot is made out of. The eye moves around the piece from jumping from texture to texture by following the flat pieces. The most important part of the pieces of the pot is the texture. The main part of the texture is the flat pieces that help your eye move around the pot. They lead from each texture to texture. I also really enjoyed making the texture of this piece because it let me use my creativity. I don’t like how I could not get the inside of the pot completely smoothed out but it is alright. I created this piece and the textures on it because it kind of reminds me of the corals in the ocean and I am a big scuba diver so I find it pretty cool. I do really like this piece of art because I am not really into drawing that much and making something like this is neater to me in the fact that I can use my creativity a little bit more to make something 3D. Overall, as I stated earlier, my favorite part about this piece is the organic coral feel that the textures give off. The thing that I did the best was making a way to easily help the eyes move around the piece. I do not like how I could not get the inside completely smooth. If I were to change anything about this piece would be to make everything a little flower and also make the inside a little more smooth.
Totem Sculpture
Clay and Glaze
Close Up
First I took a ball of clay that was about the size of my palm and stuck my thumb about halfway through the middle middle of it. Once I got to this point I pinched the clay into a pot. I then added coils to add height to it. After this, I started adding facial features to the pot. I started with the nose, then the mouth, then the eyes and the rest of the face. After attaching and shaping all of the facial features I painted the pot with slip. I would say that my imagination inspired my pot. I would not say that my piece expresses a personal or social issue. I tried to express a creative emotion with my piece. With the oddly shaped facial features and expressions, I feel like the pot gives off very unusual and creative vibes. My goal for this project was to use my imagination to create a human face. I do believe I was successful in my goals but I wish I could have added some more detail. This artwork did also help me achieve my goals in art. During the art process I learned a little about myself and a lot about the art-making process. What I learned about the art-making process was forming human facial features and expressions along with how to use a new type of clay.
