Face Pot: To start the mug, I made a pinch pot out of clay. After making the pinch pot I pushed the clay out to form the nose, mouth, and eyes. Then I used coils to make the lips. After making the lips I used the clay and scored the clay to connect the cheekbones. Then I used my tools to make sure the lips and nose were the size and shape I wanted. The last thing I did was use slip to smooth the mug out. The inspiration for my artwork was the examples Ms. Whiting gave. I did not do eyes because I thought it would look better without them. This work does not express a personal or social issue. The emotion I am trying to convey in this artwork is exhaustion. My goals for this project were to make a nice nose and lips that looked semi-realistic. I think I was successful in doing this because the nose is not perfect just like how no nose is perfect in real life. The lips look real to me because of the way they curve out. I learned that I can actually make a semi-realistic face out of clay. I am happy with the way that the mug turned out.
Line Sculpture: In the artwork, there are spaces that are darker and more filled up and spaces that have more white and less pattern. There is a lot of line variation in the artwork. I see curved lines, straight lines, zigzag, and wavy lines. It is in the shape of the letter “A.” The colors used are black and white. There are stars, circles, triangles, and squares throughout the piece. Lines are used in this piece to make shapes and draw in the eyes. The lines that are darker tend to draw in the eye more than the white negative spaces. The shapes such as stars are there to add more negative spaces to contrast with the positive areas. In the artwork, there is a lot of line variation. The most used lines are curved and straight lines. These are used to represent stability and activeness. So the purpose of the sculpture is to show stability and activity. I like this piece of art because there is a lot going on but your eyes still have places they rest on. The best part about this piece is the darker spaces that draw your eyes and all the different patterns. The worst part of this piece is the structure part.
Coil Pot: In my artwork, I see the texture, some barnacle-looking pieces, and smoothness. The barnacle things are at the top of the pot and they are smooth. They have little holes in the center of them. The rest of the pot is smoothed down and is circular. The pot starts thinner and then it gets wider at the top. There are several types of textures on the pot. The purpose of my artwork is to show organic texture. These circle things are to show texture. The texture on the pot is meant to give off a happy and calm vibe.
