I did a pinch pot to sculpt the base of the mug. I then started adding coils to build up the height. Afterwards I had a complete mug, so I began with the chin and the wrinkles to form the bull dog. I then made a hole for the mouth, scored and implanted teeth. After, I sculpted the brow bone and made the eyes and wrinkles between them. When I was sculpting, I was looking at a 3D mug of a bulldog for reference. Bulldog inspired my artwork, I referenced a bulldog when I sculpted the face. My artwork represents how when people think of certain dogs, they think of then as aggressive. Bulldogs being known for aggression made me want to incorporate that into my mug somehow. When I added the teeth, I added the perfect impression that is giving off when we think of aggression. The emotion I conveyed is how bulldogs might be frightened causing them to react a certain way. My goal for this project was to project the emotions and feelings of a bulldog accurately. I feel as if I was successful in this goal because the bulldog looks very scary and aggressive, exactly how I viewed it as. I feel as if I could've added a bit more texture to the face so it looks more furry and not flat. In this project I learned that when I think of an idea that is common among communities it is easier to work with rather than your own opinion because you feel as if you wont get judged if you go along with everyone else. Because of this idea, I feel like it helped me complete my goal with accuracy.
I created my artwork with thin coils to make my mug taller. I also used shapes to form the mouth, nose, and eyebrows. When making my mug I also used a coil to make a curve for the handle. I made pop out features when doing the face features. To add some definition I made the lips un ordinary and a bit square. When I first started making the mug I used the pinch pot method then added coils to make it taller. My artwork was inspired by Furgie, my dog, because she is always so crazy, and the expression on the face is a bit crazy as well. My artwork expresses happiness and it also looks like the person is hiding emotions. I tried to convey excitement but it turned out to be weird because the cheekbones were too out there. The eyes in the sculpture look very sleepy and one of them is crooked. The nose also makes the person look kind of snooty. My artwork was not intended to express any social or personal issues. My goal for this project was to do well on sculpting the mouth, because that is very hard for me to do. I think I reached further with my goal than I would’ve thought. My artwork reached my goal because the mouth somewhat fit the weirdness of the face. I learned that it is very hard to accomplish some of my goals, and that sometimes it is easier if you give yourself a chance to restart. Overall I think I accomplished my goal because I performed what was in my reach. Next time I do something like this, I will give myself time to restart instead of sticking with something I do not like.
In the artwork, I see the grains of rock popping out of the clay. I can also see the disorder in the flowers, and how some flowers are small and some are big. The only color used on the pottery is brown which is the color of the clay. The shapes visible are round petals with little round balls for the middle of the flower. There are no unknown objects. In the artwork I see texture in the clay, some parts of the pottery is smooth and some are more rigid like around the flower petals. The shapes are organic mimicking nature, the flowers are misshapen and the bumps in the middle are supposed to resemble the pollen. The viewers' eyes move from flower to flower creating a flow around the whole pot. In the artwork I see shaping that goes from little length around the pot to a larger circumference. This art speaks to me because it makes me feel powerful because of the flowers. It also makes me feel peaceful because of the flow of the petals. I think the most important part of this piece is the texture because of the flowers that pop out. The artist created this piece to look like a floral design. I like this piece of art because I think the designs are very cool and they flow together very well. I also think that the rim of the pot is different because it's all rigid which is very unique. I didn't like how some of the rocks popped out of the clay. I think the artist could’ve smoothed the clay better, but I like the texture. If I were to change anything, I would put more texture, and maybe add some leaves.
