Clay & Glaze
The lines used in this artwork are vertical, horizontal, diagonal, curved, and zigzag. I used every kind of line. The only two colors are black and white. There are circles, squares, rectangles, half-circles, leaves, and even a star. The form of this structure is an A. On one side, I used lots of diagonal and horizontal lines. I also used curved lines. This makes your eyes look in every direction. There’s also one long curvy line going down one side. This is a major spot on this side. On the other side, I incorporated every kind of line. The lines go in every direction, but the one strip of mostly black keeps the viewer looking in one place (emphasis). Along with different lines, there are different textures. This helps to fill in some negative spaces. This artwork is all over the place. One side is making me feel okay but the other is making me unsettled. It is all over the place and the lines are not as straight as I would like them to be. I really like the tiny flower petal on one of the sides. The most important parts of this piece are the places where it catches your eye. I believe those places are where black is filled in the most.
The pot is going outwards and then inwards. There are flowers on 4 sides of the pot. The flower is made of one circle and 5 petals. They are not identical flowers. The petals are shaped like rhombuses. There are some cracks in the tiny spaces between petals. The smooth pot makes it look very simple. The smooth flowers add to the simplicity. The shapes of the petals (rhombus) look like they could even be leaves. When they are all together though, it looks like a flower. The viewer's eye goes around the pot and will see flowers at each turn. If they spin it around fast, the flowers might even look identical. This pot is very simple and pretty. It doesn’t make me feel negative thoughts, because it is smooth all around. There are no rough lines or textures. The glaze added to the smoothness of the pot. The most important parts of this piece are the flowers. Also, how the flowers are placed where the pot goes outwards. The flowers are the texture on the pot, but they don’t catch your eye as much as other textures would. I created flowers because I wanted the pot to look neat and pretty. That is the vibe I get from it.I like this piece of art. I like the shape of the pot and the flowers all around it. I think the best part of it is the flowers. I like them the most because that’s what I worked the hardest on. I had to research how to make it.
I created my artwork using the clay. The first thing I did was shape it into the bottom of a mug. The clay was still workable (leather hard) at this point. Next, I added coils making sure that it was as tall as it was wide. After I had my mug in the shape I wanted, I started to make my face. I added a nose, mouth and teeth, eyes, eyebrows, and cheekbones. The nose got changed from the first day because I wanted to create a more textured and silly nose. I made sure to slip and score when adding the nose and the handle. Once my face was completed, I painted glaze onto all sides except for the face. My artwork was inspired by beetle-juice from the Howard Stern show. When I created my nose and eyes, I got inspired. It’s also inspired by wanting wild features. My work does not express a personal or social issue. I just wanted to make a strange and silly face. The emotion I tried to convey in my artwork was funny. My goals for this project were to make a mug that was usable. I was successful in this goal. My mug stands upright and is drinkable. I learned that I am capable of much more than I thought I was when working with clay. I was able to make a very textured face. I created facial features that I would not think of creating when I started this project. I am proud of my artwork.
Welcome to my page. I hope you enjoyed my artwork.
