Face Mug
I created the eyebrows with the inspiration of the evil queen. The evil queen, from Snow White, has such animated eyebrows and I really wanted to implicate that into my mug face. My mug represents anger and ferocity with the ways the eyes and eyebrows were shaped. Even the mouth implicates anger with the snarled teeth and un-proportioned teeth size. From the beginning of our project, I really wanted to make animated facial features to show an emotion of ideas. I feel that my mug matches my initial goal. This mug helped me understand the necessity to make decisions quicker, because as time went on and the clay became more leather hard, I had a harder time changing the facial expression of my mug. This artwork did help me reach my goals, to create a crazy face that underneath represents the chaos in my own mind.- I realized this while completing this reflection, I found out with the stress I've been feeling recently I wanted to portray anger into my art.
Animal Mug
For this specific piece of art, I decided to create an elephant mug. The elephant is my mother's favorite animal, besides butterflies, so I wanted to create a cute mug she could use for her new job. It portrays the fun and wild side of our relationship filled with jokes and happiness, rather than the serious side we also have. I am very happy with my decision and I feel it better describes my more fun bubbly side that I don't often show. In the end, I feel I was very successful in reaching my goals, I was able to convey emotions into a ceramics artwork that I haven’t done before and I had tons of fun doing it.
Organic Vase
The piece creates a movement that can be interpreted by the texture to move upward, or ultimately downward, depending on how you look at the piece. I wanted the piece to show an aquatic aspect, like it's moving underwater. With that, I included the ribbons, different varying sizes of barnacles, leaves, and mushrooms. The pot is very tall and I wanted to show the pot, rather than cover it up. I think the decision to make my pot very smooth, made the pot look cleaner. The lip at the top of the pot helps the natural curve of the pot work. I truly like this piece because I think it shows a very organic version of art that I enjoy a lot. My favorite part of this piece is the way that the flow of clay texture moves up the pot to show a grand flow.
Line Sculpture
The lines in my artwork are used in a curved line, vertically creating a flow in designs. Each line is different, where the lines have a different impact in the shape or side of the vertical line they are on. The artwork could be called chaotic due to the variety of lines and multiple shapes and boldness of the black color and lines, but I believe the artwork creates an easy flow and mixture of black and white. I think the ratio of black lines to the negative space creates a balance in the different designs and line thickness. There are a LOT of active lines, which I believe create excitement to stir feelings. The curved lines included in the piece, allow for the viewer to stay in a graceful, poised state, while the active noisy lines around the curved lines exist. I created this artwork to show the inner balance of emotions that I personally deal with. The chaotic lines and the calm lines coexisting in a common natural theme, relates to myself, where the crazy side of my personality lives with my calm and serene side. They both live under a common theme of my own personality, to truly make my emotions myself.
