Face Mug - I used clay to make the cup shape. I made a big ball of clay first, then I put a big hole in the center to make the opening of the cup with my thumb. After I made the indents for the nose before I put clay on it. I pushed the clay from the inside of the cup to pop out the nose. Then I made the nose with nostrils and I also made the eyes and eyebrows by putting the clay in those spots. I also made a mouth by putting two thin coils together. After I was done putting on the clay parts, I put the slip on my cup. I think I just tried to do what Mrs. Whiting was doing. I wasn’t really trying to make it look like someone. I don’t think that it expresses a personal or social issue either. I tried to make my cup look happy but it kind of looks indifferent. So I accidentally made it the wrong emotion but I think that once I messed up on the mouth it ruined the whole thing. My goal was to make my cup look like a person. I don’t think I was successful in my goal but I did try at least. To be honest I think my cup looks pretty creepy. Mostly because of the mouth. I learned that I should restart if I think something looks bad instead of trying to keep up with everyone else or else I might not like my end product. I wish I could redo the mouth and then I think I’d be able to reach my goal.
Line Sculpture - There are line variations, it’s in the shape of an arrow, and there are positive and negative spaces. There are lines that make up shapes and patterns throughout the artwork, the color used is black which leaves white spaces and that creates positive and negative spaces. The viewer’s eye moves around the white spaces because there are a lot of positive spaces. There are a lot of curved lines, which represents activeness and I am pretty active so I think that’s why I chose to do so many curved lines. I do like this piece because of all of the different patterns and different types of lines that represent something. I think the best part of this piece is my curved lines.
