THE SHINING

di Laura De Marchi trad. Letizia Cherubini (inglese)

The Shining, a classic of the horror genre, is a film based on Stephen King's book of the same name. This film, directed by Stanley Kubrick, is set in 1970s Colorado. Centered in the Torrance family consisting of Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson), his wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) and five-yearold baby Danny (Danny Lloyd), the feature film follows these characters during their residence in a remote hotel in the mountains. It all begins when Jack, an unemployed writer and former teacher with a drinking and anger problem, is hired as a janitor at the Overlook Hotel despite being told by manager Stanley Ullman how, Delbert Grady, the previous janitor, went mad and killed his wife and two children, ages 8 and 10 respectively, and then committed suicide. Jack saw the Overlook as an opportunity, a desperate way back from the failure and despair that; Wendy, on the other hand, a lonely sanctuary as a fragile chance to preserve their family; but Danny with "shining" ("the shimmering"), a psychic ability that allows him to read minds, communicate telepathically and see visions of events of the past and future beyond his comprehension that have happened in this deceptive-looking place will understand before anyone else the evil that lurks among the chambers of this cursed place.

Why look at it?

As mentioned above, this film is a classic of its genre and quickly became a cult film and now entered the public imagination and has sometimes been ranked as the best horror film ever. The sisters dressed in the blue dress, the number 237... All symbols found in other movies, songs or series such as The Simpsons that lead back to this movie made immortal piece of pop culture.

Enjoy and see you next film.
