09) Evaluation

a) Monitoring and measurement 

- Ballard UK monitor and measure the performance of our HSM system.

- Our approach is documented in "HSM154_BMS Health and safety monitoring and control plan".

- Ballard UK ensure that any monitoring and measurement equipment used for H&S related activities is calibrated or verified, as applicable. This is managed centrally together with the monitoring and measurement equipment used for Quality related activities. Ballard UK document information on the calibration and verification status of this equipment in "HSM095 Work Equipment Register". Simon Hamilton is responsible for maintaining the status of calibrated equipment.

-Ballard UK evaluate our compliance to legal H&S requirements. The results of this work are summarised by Ballard UK/Arcola's Technical experts in Legislation Update Service (LUS)'s online tool. This is then summarised by  "HSM158 Energy H&S legal compliance RA" which also tracks the technical areas of responsibility. 

b) Auditing

- We are certified for a period of 3 years (initial certification spring 2020, first re-certification Winter 2022).

- External auditing takes place annually and is delivered by BSI (British Standard Institute).

- In addition to external audits, Ballard UK/Arcola undertake Internal audits to ensure that our activities are compliant with the requirements of our health and safety management system, regulatory and statutory requirements as well as with the requirements of the ISO 45001 HSM system standard. Internal auditing takes place 2- 3 times a year, depending on risks, changes and nonconformities.

- Everything in the scope of Arcola's H&S management system is audited as a minimum once per year.

- Ballard UK/Arcola's overall approach to Auditing is documented and managed on IMS level at E Auditing.

- Ballard UK/Arcola's HSM system is audited based on "HSM155 Internal audit plans and reports LIVE".

c) Management reviews

- Management reviews are performed more often than audits (e.g. 2 - 3 times a year).

- Requirements for e.g. HSM system improvement, changes, resourcing, H&S objectives, incidents and consultation & participation of workers are discussed in the management reviews.

- The results of audits are possible inputs to management reviews.
