1) Introduction
Health and Safety is a key priority for all activities of Ballard and Arcola Companies.
Ballard and Arcola at one time shared a health and safety management system, but this has now been split.
Arcola Theatre and Bar are to continue following the old simplified HSM, as summarised under green headings further down this page.
Ballard follows a new HSM certified by BSI to the ISO 45001 standard for "The provision of systems engineering and commercialisation activities in the field of fuel cells, hydrogen and related clean energy & mobility technologies ". This system is described in the remining pages of this section 4 of the Staff Website, structured according to the ISO High Level Structure which is used in all modern ISO standards. As of 2022, we are in the process of integrating Ballard UK's processes in to the global Ballard H&S management systems.
As with all good systems, we should follow the Plan > Do > Check > Act wheel:

4) Arcola Theatre & Bar Health and Safety management system
Documenting is a work in progress.
The system is documented in the following files (some accessible below):
i) "HSM057 ATPC ATL Health & Safety Policy", which details the scope and objectives of this HSM.
ii) "HSM089 Annual delivery programme", which delivers scheduling and assignment of responsibilities of H&S management activities.
iii) "HSM061 Fire safety and emergency response plan", which documents Arcola's approach to First aid, Fire-fighting and Evacuation in the face of serious and imminent danger.
iv) "HSM004 HS RCS responsibilities", which documents the responsibilities of Arcola's Technical experts regarding H&S Regulations, Codes and Standards (RCS).
v) "HSM000 Health and safety document register", where all Arcola's version controlled H&S documents are recorded.
vi) Plus additional policies for specific risks and activities - see the full listing in HSM000.
5) Arcola Theatre & Bar Health and Safety risk assessments
Accident reporting is used to influence the risk assessments, risk assessments are live documents. Accident reports are read and actioned as soon as processed to ensure risk assessments are kept up to date.
Assessing and managing risks is an integral part of Arcola's H&S management system. Arcola's H&S risk assessments are separated into 5 assessments based (mostly) on physical layout of the facilities. The risk assessments are:
i) Studios - Led by Geoff Hense.
ii) Upstairs - Led by Miriam Mahony.
iii) Downstairs - Led by Miriam Mahony.
iv) Bar - Led by Nadja Bering Ovesen
These Risk assessments are all documented in "HSM059 Arcola Health and Safety risk assessment". The HSM059 is a live document with limited access rights. Periodic (annual) releases of the risk assessments are/will be accessible below.
