Work equipment

Arcola is implementing the EU Work Equipment Directive (WED) - 2009/104/EC together with its implementing legislation in the UK. Arcola undertakes to ensure that all Work Equipment is suitable, maintained and inspected by a competent person to ensure it is safe and fit for purpose. All staff must be adequately trained in the use of all work equipment that they use and where deemed necessary by risk assessments, follow written standard operating procedures on certain work equipment.

A Work Equipment register, HSM095, is maintained to track each item of work equipment, assigning responsibility to an individual and logging inspection/service/maintenance.

Health and safety risks associated with items of work equipment are controlled through restricting access to equipment, ensuring that adequate guards, protection devices, markings, safety control systems and personal protective equipment are used, and through the provision of adequate training, instruction, and clearly defined procedures and safe systems of work.
