Track & Field Team
Preparing for AASCA Tournament

AASCA events are the maximum level of competition for ANS, and next up in January is Track & Field in El Salvador.

Our coaching team is working hard to prepare our students for this event and have created a rigorous  and diverse training program designed to have our athletes  find their rhythm of competition and get them to AASCA next semester in the best possible condition, both physically and mentally.

As part of their training students competed last Saturday in an event organized by ANS and held at ‘Volcan Mombacho’ with the support of the administration of this National Park and the families of our athletes.

Students competed in “Categorias. U15 unificada Femenina/Masculina, U18 unificada Femenina/Masculina - 1k META DE MONTAÑA”,  versus three other teams in ‘relay time trials’ up the volcano.

A fantastic time was had by all and we are grateful to everyone who came out to participate in or support this initiative.

Standards Based PE

At ANS our Physical Education program is “standards based” meaning that for each grade level, students must demonstrate a level of mastery in a range of physical capabilities that correspond to what a child of their age should be able to do.

With this in mind, teachers impart classes that encourage the development of fine motor skills and abilities that will enrich the lives of our students and make them ‘physically literate individuals, able to be active and healthy now, and in their adult lives.

Last week we were pleased to receive primary parents as we held ‘open days’, where they could come and join their child in these classes, getting a better idea of what standards based PE looks and feels like to children of all ages, and experiencing for themselves some of the creative drills and games used by our PE team to develop physical mastery in our students.

What's coming up,
What's going on

Our chess team participated in the “National Quick Tournament” organized by the National Federation last Saturday at the Chess Federation HQ, in an event which brought together chess players from all over the country.

7 of our Tigers participated, in the following categories:

Over the last few weeks in Primary, students have been participating in an exciting soccer event during recess called ”El Mundialito”, with the objective of promoting a more cooperative approach among students.

This event sought to highlight the importance of teamwork, the managing of the different emotions that are generated in a soccer match, and above all sharing with friends and the importance of collaboration over rivalry.

One of the creative initiatives introduced with these goals in mind was the use of “IN GAME PLAYING CARDS”, where captains drew secret cards that were used strategically during the game, to the benefit of their teams.

The final of the tournament was held on November 10th and we are so pleased with the outcomes and lessons learnt during this event, which we will look to repeat in the near future.
