AASCA Basketball

Our delegation is finally at their AASCA tournament in Panama for three intense days of intense competition versus our rival schools in the region.

We are so proud of every player who has made this trip and will update on their results next week.

What is certain is that we have a young team (with players from 7th-11th grade) meaning that they will be ready to go again next year with another year of physical, mental, tactical and technical growth and the experience that only participating in an international event like this can give.

ATHLETICS STUDENTS OF THE WEEK

Fernando Rodríguez

This past August FERNANDO took His black belt exam In TAE KWON DO after training for many years to successfully pass this exam.

With this achievement he becomes one of several ANS students who train in this superb discipline.

For Fernando, this achievement has been one of his main goals in Taekwondo and he has competed in national and international competitions working to get ready for his First Dan exam that will take place next year.  He also recently started competing in the Poomsae Category at a local Olympic Festival, and his discipline and dedication are to be admired!

MOTIVATION

It's not the will to win that matters.
It's the will to prepare win.

Did you Know?

Mind Over Body

For our basketball team at AASCA, 6 games in 3 days is an exhausting schedule.  What helps them to live with this schedule and continue to show their best?

Training for the event is obviously key, and the Athletics Department along with coaches prepare a dedicated program to get athletes ready for the demands that will be placed upon them.

Also our athletes are encouraged to go beyond their limits and employ a “mind over body” mentality.

Elite athletes have the ability to force their body on and ignore the stress signs their muscles are sending to the brain.

This type of mind over body is a specific type of willpower called “Want Power” and it involves using a part of the brain stronger than the part that receives messages of pain and to quit.  This stronger part of the brain can override the desire to stop and rest and push on into the 50% science says we still have in the tank when thinking we have reached our limit.

At AASCA our athletes are going above and beyond in the name of ANS and we thank them for their effort and sacrifice!

What's coming up,
What's going on

We have had a busy week in the Athletic department!

At the Varsity level we have our Basketball team in Panama as mentioned.  In Volleyball, the team qualified this week for Tigo Cup semi-finals (joining our girls and boys soccer teams in this phase of the competition) to be held at ‘Centro Sportslam’ Saturday 28th October.

Volleyball Girls are also participating in the “Joy Cup” held by St Mary School and Soccer teams players friendly games versus professional teams (boys versus Walter Ferretti U17, drawing 3-3, and girls versus Zacarías Guerra Women, drawing 1-1)

While inclement weather has seen many activities and games canceled, younger age groups have also been active, Soccer U-12 boys, U-10 Basketball, and our chess team have all been involved in friendly meets and games and a great time has been had by all!

The following ANS swimmers will participate in the National Beginners Departmental Swim Meet to be held at the Michele Richardson 25-meter pool next Sunday, October 22, starting at 9:00AM.

This event is organized by the National Swimming Federation at the best pool in Nicaragua and will be a great experience for our youngest generation of swimmers.

We wish them all the best at this event!
