Copa Tigo Soccer Finals

ANS was out in force last Saturday as the ‘Copa Tigo Juvenil’ reached its climax at the Sportslam Complex.

Both our girls and boys varsity soccer teams were in action as they looked to retain the championships they won a year ago, girls versus St Augustine Prep, and boys versus Colegio Centro America.

The girls played first and comfortably won their game 4-0 with goals from Helena Lau of 7th grade, Sofia Coe and Sofia Cerna of 11th, and senior Daniela Alvarez.

Our boys played next and put on a similarly dominant performance, but this time with just 1 goal to show for their efforts, scored by 9th grader Andres Alvarez.

We are so proud of what these two exceptional groups and their coaches have achieved in this event, and of the support that the teams received last weekend from families, friends and teachers who attended the games in huge numbers to cheer our players to victory.

David Rosario

Last Friday ANS was privileged to receive David Rosario, head basketball coach of the Nicaraguan National Team and Technical Director of Real Esteli Basketball, who came on campus to deliver a motivational speech to ANS players from our U14 boys and girls teams, and our boys varsity team who recently competed at AASCA basketball in Panama.

Coach Rosario (credited with taking Nicaragua to its highest ever world ranking in basketball and for making Real Esteli a force in Latin America) interestingly chose to speak of his origins as a high school player and then coach working in ‘educational athletics’ in his home country of Puerto Rico.

Our students and coaches were inspired as he discussed the importance of ethics and values, of student athletes focusing primarily on academics, of how sports can impact the lives of young people, and the incredible privilege that coaches have to assist them in their journey.

After his speech he was the guest of honor at a game between ANS U14 boys and Real Esteli, which was won by ANS, 20-11.

Coach Rosario also took the time to share his positive feedback regarding how our basketball program is flourishing, the quality of our coaches and the facilities we have at our disposal and how well our U14 boys performed in their game.  He promised to visit us again soon and we look forward greatly to that.

MOTIVATION

You win in the locker room first

Did you Know?

A winning culture

As our girls and boys soccer teams won their back-to-back Copa Tigo finals last weekend (to go along with numerous other championships (including an AASCA title for the girls) won over the last few years) it is clear to see that a winning culture exists at ANS.

How does this come about?

Building a winning culture is something that takes time and begins with a clear vision and philosophy, with shared team values and behaviors on the part of all involved, and a focus on the following:

At ANS we are consistently implementing all of the above as we look to achieve the same level of sporting success that we have enjoyed in varsity soccer across our entire program.

What's coming up,
What's going on

Our girls varsity volleyball team participated in the third place game in Copa Tigo Juvenil as they build toward their first AASCA participation in several years next semester.

They also played a friendly game versus Nicaraguan Christian Academy in what has been a busy few weeks for them.

Girls basketball U14 played versus Real Esteli and won 16-4 in a fantastic performance which saw them win for the third straight game.

Our Track & Field team are preparing for their AASCA meet in January and as part of their preparations have been holding ‘cross country’ style practices at the “Reserva Tres Cañones” in Carazo and have an event this Saturday 18th November at Volcan Mombacho in Granada.
