Varsity Team Tryouts

Tryouts for ANS Varsity Competition teams have been introduced as a new initiative for this 2023/24 season, and student athletes who qualified to enter according to their age were tested and analyzed over the second week of practices.

Over 150 students participated in this process, which has been introduced as the next step of the culture change we have been implementing over the last year in secondary sports.

Athletes were analyzed, scored and categorized in a range of fields including their technical, tactical, physical and mental prowess.

Each team sport had a predetermined number of spots for a varsity competition team, with anyone not invited to form part of these included in a “Junior Varsity” program, designed to help them make a team in the future.

Tryouts are a tool that is proven to hold a long list of benefits to athletic programs, and we are excited to see how introducing this process will allow ANS sports to grow.

ATHLETICS STUDENTS OF THE WEEK

Gian Carlo Palazio & Maximus Parrales

Last week ANS was privileged to host a tryout event held by the National Basketball Federation who invited over 150 young athletes from all over the country to participate.

4 select ANS varsity team members completed a long morning of testing at this event, and we are delighted to share that both Gian Carlos and Maximus made the cut to be included in the top 30 players on the day, who will be invited back for the next round of tryouts on a date still to be announced.

We are so proud of both boys for this exceptional achievement and for showing true tiger spirit!

MOTIVATION

You will never know your limits unless you push yourself to them

Sports Tryouts

Tryouts for sports help to create a successful team by assessing students’ abilities, experience and potential.

In the tryout process coaches can observe each player’s willingness to participate and engage with potential teammates, and get a sense of what that student is capable of and what they have already mastered.

In tryouts, a students’ mental capabilities and how far they are willing to go for the success of themselves and their teams can also be observed.  Mentality greatly impacts an athlete’s overall performance and ability to contribute to the sport. Students that show determination, motivation and willingness to become better athletes are most often those selected from a tryout.

When coaches include all the above mentioned factors in their tryout assessment, they can count upon athletes who can make up a team that is ready to succeed.

What's coming up,
What's going on

COPA TIGO JUVENIL is happening all over Managua this week and ANS has teams participating in Basketball, Soccer and Volleyball.

This is the first test for our newly formed varsity competition teams and we are excited to see how they do.

Our Boys Basketball team were the first to play in this competition, and won their opening game 24-11 versus Colegio La Anunciación.
