ATHLETICS STUDENTS OF THE WEEK

Giancarlo Palazio

Last weekend the "FIBA YOUTH DEVELOPMENT CAMP, MANAGUA 2024" was held at the Polideportivo Alexis Arguello, and we were privileged to be represented by Giancarlo and his teammate Maximus Parrales at this elite level event, which also included clinics for coaches attended by all of our ANS basketball coaching team.

The camp was hosted by the National Basketball Federation and special guest coaches in attendance for the event were; Dave Severns (former director of player development at the Chicago Bulls and The Clippers), and Argentinian Mariano Marcos (Coordinador de Selecciones Formativas of his National Federation).

The top 20 young basketball players in the country were invited to attend (including our two students) and we are extremely proud to announce that Giancarlo was named as the “Most Developed Athlete” for the entire camp! An incredible honor for him, his family, and all of us, and a testament to his incredible work ethic and discipline.

Giancarlo, we could not be prouder!

MOTIVATION

Push through the pain,
on the other side is the reward.

Did you Know?

Brain Power Wellness

At ANS, Brain Power Wellness is being explored and implemented across campus (including in athletics) to improve the daily lives of our community.

What are the goals of this initiative and what benefits can the techniques it promotes bring to us?

The Brain Power curriculum model blends community building, wellness, brain training, social/emotional learning and character development for impactful learning.

Within our ANS Athletics Department the use of brain breaks and the Brain Power activities related to these, help teachers and coaches engage students through physical, emotional and cognitive wellness and mindfulness activities, which allow students to better focus on the set tasks, roles, and assignments they will have in an athletic setting, which is often fast paced and intense.

Positive atmospheres and positive relationships are key, and in a Brain Power Class or practice session, students and teachers work together to create three positive types of relationships, and in turn support and improve the team and group dynamic that is so important for success in sports or games.

Brain Power is changing the way we teach, coach and build teams and individual athletes at ANS, and we are proud to be implementing this incredible tool which supports our goal of equipping our students for life and setting them up to achieve academic and sporting success via good social emotional health.

The work that is being done in sports and all over our campus is ultimately something that can help every one of us to become a more responsible and proactive citizen of our global community.  If you would like more information regarding how Brainpower Wellness is changing the way we teach and coach sports, or information regarding this incredible tool for life, please contact the Athletic Director: Mr David Faulkner, dfaulkner@ans.edu.ni
