Inclusion in Athletics

At ANS we are privileged to have an innovative inclusion program aimed at ensuring that every single student on campus receives an education that supports our mission of academic excellence and ethical leadership development.

Recently, our school has been exploring opportunities to extend the reach of this inclusive ethos into sports and physical education and this week marked a significant milestone in this endeavor as we hosted a comprehensive training session for coaches and instructors.

The session delved into the basic principles of our inclusion program, emphasizing the understanding that every individual learns differently. Coaches were equipped with strategies to identify areas where athletes may face challenges and were trained on methods to enhance both comprehension and athletic performance.

The training session focused on key cognitive areas essential for success, including working memory, processing speed, visual/spatial and verbal comprehension. By honing in on these fundamental aspects, coaches gained insights into how they can tailor their coaching methods to cater to the diverse learning needs of their athletes.

As a school, we are immensely pleased and proud to introduce inclusion program principles into our athletic programs. By embracing these principles, we anticipate that coaches will be able to adapt and personalize their practices and classes, thereby providing an enriching and fulfilling athletic experience for all students. We eagerly anticipate witnessing the positive impact of this initiative as it unfolds, empowering every athlete to reach their full potential on and off the field.

PE Parent Open Day

This week the Athletic department was privileged to receive parents into our Primary aged classes at our special "open day", where visitors got to experience  firsthand our dynamic and progressive approach to physical education.

Parents actively participated in the classes alongside their children across the different grades and developmental stages, engaging in a variety of age-appropriate activities designed to develop fundamental movement skills and a love for physical activity.

Students also took the opportunity to proudly showcase and describe in their own words the core values instilled by the PE program: discipline, effort, sacrifice, and teamwork.

We are so grateful to all who were able to join us for the “open day” and for the chance to celebrate our incredible program.

MOTIVATION

Fit is not a destination, it's a way of life.

What's coming up,
What's gone on

As ‘Copas’ and events come to their conclusions, ANS teams in several sports and age groups are qualified for semi-finals, or finals.

We congratulate the following teams for their progress deep into the various tournaments they are participating in:

Soccer U-10 Boys, U-13 Girls, U-13 Boys, U-16 Boys, U-18 Girls and U-18 Boys are all in semi-final action this week and next.

Last weekend, at the National KID’S ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIP held at the IND, our youngest Track & Fielders had the opportunity to shine in this premier event hosted by the National Federation.

Our delegation was relatively small and several athletes competed in older age group categories, but they secured 7th position out of 14 teams and learnt so much from this incredible opportunity..

In swimming ANS participated in the “New Hopes' swimming tournament held at the Michele Richardson National 25-meter pool last Friday, April 19, with our team 2nd overall and around 140 swimmers from Managua participating.

Our standout performers and medal winners were ANA CECILIA LAGOS, DAVID BARCENAS, NORMAN NAVARRETE and LOGAN KITTLES.
