Our Tigers are back
from AASCA Track & Field!

We received our AASCA Track & Field team back on campus after their trip to El Salvador last week, tired but fulfilled after three intense days of competition involving some of the finest young athletes in Central America and a good number of national champions from across the region.

The team was almost entirely new this year and we were amazed to see them beat our predictions on a personal and team level, ranking in the top 20% across various age groups and events - which may not sound like much, but for a 12 y/o runner to rank 6th in an event made up of 47 competitors in a U-15 category, shows the talent and heart we have within our program.

Brynn Kerr of 7th grade won 3rd place (2 seconds from gold) in the U-15 Girls 1200m and was also named our team MVP in that category, she was joined by Seungyoon Jung, of 8th grade in U-15 Boys, and Zachary Grover, 11th grade, in the U-20 Boys.

We're so excited for the future of our Track & Field program and congratulate all of our athletes (full list of names below) for what they accomplished in the name of ANS.

ATHLETICS STUDENTS OF THE WEEK

Luca De Santi

Luca is a Senior and standout athlete within our program and has recently been accepted on a scholarship to play soccer at Brandeis University in Boston, Massachusetts.

It is a great honor for ANS to have a student athlete continue their soccer career at the university level in the US, and Luca has obtained this on the back of his obvious talent, but also because of his incredible work habits and the sacrifices he has made over many years.

Luca, we wish you all the very best in this exciting new phase of your soccer career, thank you for your exceptional participation in our program, and will follow your progress with great interest!

MOTIVATION

Never say never, because limits
like fears are often an illusion.

Did you Know?

Physical Education at ANS

Over the last few weeks we have been discussing how PE is standards based at ANS (about the skills you can develop and not just playing sports), and how we use Brain Power Wellness techniques to support our program and the social, emotional being of our students.

Implementing the above on a daily basis, ANS PE teachers plan their classes and sessions around the following standards:

To support all of the above, teachers ask for high levels of “sportsmanship” - these are some of the rules they implement daily:

Both of the above lists are displayed in the office our PE teachers use as a daily reminder of the responsibility we have and the standards we expect.

We are grateful to each and every member of our Athletic Department who works hard to ensure we are producing Physically Literate students via our Standards Based program, supported by the implementation of Brain Power Wellness techniques, clear, defined standards, and driven by sportsmanship.

What's coming up,
What's gone on

The next AASCA’s on the horizon are almost upon us, with Soccer (13-18 of February) next up, and our teams working hard as they finalize their preparations for this event.

Both our Girls and Boys teams have been in action over the last few weeks in a number of friendly games, with our Girls beating fellow AASCA participants St Augustine Prep home and away, 4-1, and our Boys beating the Athletic Argiro Academy 1-0 in a four-team tournament being held at UAM, which will finish this Friday.
