ATHLETICS STUDENTS OF THE WEEK

Vanessa Wheelock
& Seungyoon Jung

AASCA Track and Field was an opportunity to get insight on skills and growth opportunities for our Track and Field team. Last weekend they participated in the National Relays and Non-Olympic Events Championship held by the Nicaraguan Track and Field Federation at the IND - Nicaraguan Sports Institute (Spanish acronym) complex.

Vanessa Wheelock (7th Grade) & Seungyoon Jung (8th Grade) had a standout performance in this sports national platform. Vanessa won her Gold medal in long jump, with a jump of 2.37m and Seungyoon won his undisputed gold medal in 60m race, crowning themselves as National Champions in their categories.

Our ANS Track and Field team won a total of nine medals at the National Relays and Non-Olympic Events Championship!

Huge congratulations to them both for their incredible achievements!

MOTIVATION

A champion is someone
who gets up even when he can't.

Coaches Corner

Our soccer coach Jamin Rivera (Magdiel) had the privilege to attend the recently held ‘Jornadas de Formacion Futbol course for coaches held by the Fundacion Real Madrid in Nicaragua, 24-26 of February.

This course was directed toward young coaches who work in the ‘foundation phase’ of soccer training and the focus was all to do with the values and standards that Real Madrid as an organization promotes and how to coach and educate young people.

Magdiel has returned from this event eager to share the knowledge acquired with students and staff alike and we are grateful to the Fundacion Real Madrid for the opportunity, and the investment in coaches that they are making.

What's coming up,
What's gone on

ANS has been actively participating in AASCA events (Association of American Schools of Central America) this school year. We are eager for the upcoming tournaments such as:

Our Girls Varsity Volleyball team will be heading to Guatemala and represent ANS against 15 schools from across Central America. Our team will face Happy Days and Freedom School of Honduras and Balboa Academy of Panama in their group phase.

UAM - American University (Spanish acronym) Soccer Cup is considered the premier school soccer championship in Nicaragua and it starts today. On Monday our team representatives attended the uniform presentation for this event. Our Girls Varsity Soccer team which are the reigning champions will play the Inaugural Game this Friday at UAM campus.

Our younger athletes will also be in action in LIA (Lincoln International Academy) Cup and CCA - Central American School (Spanish acronym) Cup! We are eager to showcase our athletic program in these school competitions.
