AASCA Swimming

Yesterday our AASCA Swimming team arrived to Guatemala, received by their parents in the airport. Our twenty-seven athletes, led by their captains Erick Lagos and Hannah Kuhlmann, arrived in Guatemala and began their pre-tournament training in the CAG - American School of Guatemala (Spanish acronym) pool, this year's tournament host.

AASCA is the Association of American Schools of Central America and serves as the regional platform for international schools to showcase excellence through annual sports and academic competitions.

In this Swimming Tournament 13 schools from across Central America are participating with a total of 170 athletes who will be showcasing their skills in individual events and in team relays in their different categories. This event marks the largest AASCA Swimming competition in history.

ATHLETICS STUDENTS OF THE WEEK

Erick Lagos & Hannah Kuhlmann

Our AASCA swim team is now in Guatemala at their regional meet and ready to shine!

Making the list for an AASCA sporting event is a huge achievement, and being named as a team captain is an honor that comes with a great level of responsibility in a variety of ways.

Hannah and Erick are exceptional swimmers, but also embody the qualities and values we consider to be important in our program. They have worked so hard to be the liaison between coaches and athletes, to support logistical concerns for the team, and in acquiring sponsors for team uniforms, among other tasks.

For all of this and more we recognize their extraordinary sacrifice and wish them the very best at AASCA Swimming 2024 in Guatemala!

MOTIVATION

The road to success is always paved
with consistent hard work.

Tigers in Action!

The benefits of competition in any sports program are many and varied and at ANS we love to see our student athletes representing us on the field, court, track or wherever it is. Our ANS teams across the age groups and activities are currently busy competing in a variety of cups, games, and events, with lots more to come as we finish the school year strong!

Over the last weeks some standout results have been in:

Basketball

U-16, ANS 61, Nicaraguan Christian Academy 20.

U-18, ANS 49, Colegio Centro America 44 (in overtime).

Soccer

U-10, ANS 3, Colegio Centro America 2.

U-13 Boys, ANS 11, Notre Dame 0.

U-16 Boys, ANS 4, St. Augustine Prep 0.

U-18 Girls, ANS 15,  Colegio Latino Americano 0,

U-18 Boys, ANS 3, Lincoln International Academy 1.

Volleyball

Mini, 2 sets to 1, versus Lincoln International Academy.

Infantil, ANS 2 sets to 1 versus Carazo.

U-18, ANS 2 sets to 1, versus Colegio Centro America.

We are so proud of the effort and dedication of our student athletes, and whilst results aren’t everything or indeed the focus of our program, winning is a great reward for all the hard work they put in at practice.

DID YOU KNOW?

Competition

Being chosen to a sports team or to represent your school or club is a huge honor and provides memories that last a lifetime.

At ANS we have an inclusive extracurricular sports program that is available to all, year round , with noone  cut or removed, but with places on teams only made available to a certain number of qualifying athletes.

The following is the official policy that guide our program when it comes to competition, as written in our manuals:

The ANS After School Sports Program is “formative-competitive”, meaning that we look to develop the skills of all students within the program to a level where they are able to represent ANS in a manner befitting our fine school.

We believe that across the age groups and different disciplines that our ANS teams should be in and among the best in the country, and in order to achieve this goal will always look to put out the strongest competitive representative teams possible in official events like cups and tournaments, with students not selected for these able to participate more informally, in participation teams or focusing on practice only.

Our coaches are tasked with analyzing their groups and preparing the team(s) that will represent us in competitions, and when doing this they take into consideration many different factors including but not limited to:

While we will do our best to ensure that every student in the program has the chance to play, this is not always in the best interests of a player, a team, or our program, or even possible for a variety of administrative reasons. It is imperative that parents be aware that forming part of our extracurricular sports program does NOT ensure that a student is ready to participate in games and events, or that they will have the opportunity to do so.

We thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation with all of the above, and for trusting our coaches to make the best unbiased and just decisions for the school.

What's coming up,
What's gone on

Our Basketball Head Coach Mr. Norland Ramirez, and esteemed Primary PE teacher and After School Supervisor Mr. Hugh Cash spent their weekend giving back and supporting the National Basketball Federation in their “Minibaloncesto, Un Balon Por Niño” initiative, this latest version held in Jinotepe, Carazo.

ANS has an ongoing strategic partnership with the National Basketball Federation that has allowed our program to grow and flourish, and we are pleased and proud to have our excellent coaches support the growth of this sport in Nicaragua.
