These trainings were designed specifically for All Hands and Hearts programs, and have been tailored to cover the types of illnesses and injuries we see most often.
All of the trainings cover 4 main categories:
Initial incident response, patient care, and decision making
Environmental illnesses and injuries (like heat illness)
Trauma/injuries
Illness and disease
Our training courses focus on response and decision making (how to know when a sick or injured person should go to the hospital or not) rather than specific conditions (though we do talk about some specific medical topics). The trainings are a mixture of scenarios (hands on practice) and informational instruction. These scenarios are incidents that have actually happened on AHAH programs, giving your team real examples to think about and practice.
Please note: these courses are in-house AHAH programs. They do NOT include a certification.
This course is a very basic introduction to first aid and takes about a half day (around 4 to 5 hours)
Intended for programs who have easy access to well equipped hospitals and emergency medical services (like ambulances) who arrive with trained staff
Good choice for programs would not expect to be providing care for a severely injured person for more than about 30 minutes
This course offers a more in depth introduction to first aid and medical training and lasts about 8 hours.
Covers topics in detail, and teaches more skills for treating patients and recognizing when they need to go to the hospital
This course is intended for programs with a hospital or clinic nearby (within 30 minutes), but that may not be well equipped. Severe injuries may require transport to a more well established hospital farther away.
This is our most comprehensive course, designed for our most remote programs (like Nepal) that do not have quick access to quality medical care
These programs expect to transport patients in AHAH vehicles in an emergency, and may need to provide care for those patients for an hour or more
In addition to the topics covered in the full day course, this course also emphasizes stabilizing and transporting injured patients.
In the below sheet we will show who is being trained, where, throughout 2019/20.
