The volunteer and alumni relations department consists of three main areas: Volunteer Coordination, Volunteer Fundraising and Alumni Relations. Each area and the interplay between them is critically important to building a positive and meaningful volunteer journey. The slide deck below gives an overview of the departments functions, key aspects of their work and current KPIs.
Volunteer coordination fundamentally describes the processes and people involved in getting the right number of volunteers to our programs. That being said, there is so much more to our volunteer coordination strategy than simple logistics. Our goal is to create a meaningful and inclusive experience and appropriately prepare our volunteers to be successful on base. Their experience pre-arrival and then on our program is fundamental to how they engage with us as an organisation, the work we do, the impact we have and ultimately supporting us beyond their time on program.
Volunteer fundraising is centred around engaging volunteers with peer-to-peer fundraising in order to raise critical funds to run our programs. In this section you will find information relating to our Volunteer Fundraising Strategy and our impact in recent years. You will also find training documents and resources, as well as an ideas toolbox filled with success stories to help inspire new ideas and support our efforts around the world.
Alumni Relations describes the work we do to explicitly keep our volunteers connected to us and the work we do around the world beyond their on program experience. We want our alumni to be able to rely on the community they build while on base long after they've left. We hope that this supports our alumni to keep coming back to volunteer with us and inspiring others to do the same.
Below is the Volunteer and Alumni Relations FY24 Review. This document provides important data from FY24 about applications, fill rate, forecast vs. actuals, volunteer demographics, the average length of stay, returning volunteers, volunteer feedback, volunteer fundraising and alumni engagement. It also includes a section on our brand-new National Sponsorship Program. You will also find here a detailed summary of Volunteer Fundraising in FY22 (detailed FY23 summary is on the way!) and links to our monthly summaries.
