Survivors of disasters are particularly vulnerable following an event. Aid workers’ assumptions, communication, body language and actions can impact survivors’ mental health, trust of the organization and recovery in ways that people may not be aware of. The objective of this training is to help AHAH representatives understand how various factors can affect how an individual copes post-disaster and how they respond to and interact with you. Representatives will learn how to appropriately interact with beneficiaries to ensure AHAH adheres to the humanitarian principle of Do No Harm.
Below, you will find two formats in which you can complete the training: video and text.
1. UNDERSTANDING THE EFFECTS OF DISASTERS ON MENTAL HEALTH
2. INTERACTING WITH COMMUNITY MEMBERS USING A TRAUMA INFORMED APPROACH
3. DO'S AND DON'TS DURING THE INTERACTION
4. ADDITIONAL IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS
5. SELF-CARE PLAN
6. GUIDANCE ON INFORMING SURVIVORS THAT AHAH IS UNABLE TO ASSIST THEM
