The plaza would open in summer 1964 with Grants department store and a Demolas supermarket, which opened in late July. Friendly would open a restaurant in the plaza on February 26th 1965. In the Mid 1960s, Elliott's would open. In 1967-68, a Rexall drug store opened. In early 1976, the grants would close after the chain's bankruptcy. Elliott's expanded and reopened around late April 1976. Elliots would close around the late 70s-early 80s. Woolco would open in the former Grants around May-June 1979. JCPenney would open a catalog store in the late 70s. Birch Superdrug would take over the operations of the Rexall in 1980, and would remodel and expand the store. In early 1983, Woolco would close because of the chain's bankruptcy. Zayre would move into the old Woolco space and open on November 12th 1984. Around the same time as when Zayre was moving into its new space, the whole plaza received a renovation, with Demolas expanding, Birches Drug expanding into vacant spaces, Friendlys moving to the end of the plaza, and the whole plaza receiving a new façade. The plaza's renovation also included the addition of a service merchandise being built onto the plaza next to Demolas, with the store opening on April 25th 1985. Ames would purchase all Zayre stores in 1988, and would reopen in the in October 1989 in the Zayre in this plaza. Birch Superdrug would close around the early 1990s, and was replaced by Osco Drug later that decade. The JCPenney catalog store closed in 1991, when JCPenney opened in the Rockingham Park Mall. In 1999, service merchandise would downsize its store to 1/2 the size. Bad Bath and Beyond would open in the Vacant space created by Service merchandise in 2001. Osco Drug closed in early 2002. In spring 2002, service merchandise would close after the chain's bankruptcy. Around 2002, the plaza received a new street sign, and the plaza's original sign was removed. Ames would close in October 2002. On October 15th 2003, ACmoore opened in the old Service merchandise space. A week later, on October 23rd 2003, a HomeGoods Marshall Superstore would open in the former Ames. On April 11th 2010, the Demolas supermarket would close because Market Basket wanted to rebuild and open a new Market Basket store in its space. Market Basket would open a temporary store in the Space of the old JCPenney catalog store the next day, for the remainder of the stores/plaza demolition/construction. The Friendly's restaurant in the plaza closed in summer 2010, because of the demolition of the north side of the plaza during the renovation of the plaza. The market basket would open on jan 12th 2011. SunTan City opened in early-mid 2015 next to Market Basket. ACmoore closed in late February 2020. Bed Bath & Beyond would close in summer 2023. In July 2024, Burlington Coat Factory opened in the former ACmoore. Currently as of January 2026, TJMaxx is planning to move into the former Bed Bath & Beyond space, from its old space at Rockingham Plaza up the road.
