The plaza opened on September 16th, 1989 with the main anchor stores being Zayre, Super Shaws, and Osco Drug. Shortly after the plaza's opening Zayre went out of business and was converted to an Ames department store. The Ames store would stay open for less than a year and started a liquidation sale in mid-july and was closed in late august- early september 1990. Joann Fabrics opened in 1990. Shortly after the Ames closure, Walmart said they would open in the vacant spot. The Walmart opened on July 2nd, 1991, and was the first Walmart in New England. KB toy works opened in 1997. Fashion Bug closed around summer 2000. Sometime in 2001, the Osco drug would close, and Cowabunga's would later fill this space in November 2011. KB toy works closed in early 2004. In 2005, the Shaws would get remodeled. In mid-August 2009 Walmart would close and be relocated to a newly built supercenter on the other side of town. After the closure of Walmart, it would be subdivided into 3 new stores. A Tractor Supply Co. opened in the former Walmart's garden center and Ocean State Job Lots would take over 3/5ths of the former Walmart store. Cowabunga's closed in 2020. The other 2/5ths of the Walmart store would sit vacant until being filled on Sep 1st, 2023 when American Freight would open in the spot. A goodwill store opened in July 2023 in the former Osco Drug / Cowabunga's, after moving from a plaza down the street. American Freight would only last a few years before closing in late December 2024. Jo-Ann Fabrics closed on April 28th, 2025.
