Main Plaza
Originally named the Claremont Mall, construction started in early 1980. The first to open was the main anchor store, Kmart, on November 6th 1980. Hallmark Store, Giant records, and a few other stores opened along with Kmart. The second anchor Grand Union Supermarket, Fayva Shoes, and Papa Gino's opened in November-December 1980. Claremont Triple cinema opened in the plaza on December 19th, 1980. CVS would open in late 1980 to early 1981. Perfecta Camera opened in 1986. Papa Gino's closed in the late 1980s. In mid-March 1990, the Kmart closed and moved next door to a newly built separate plaza expansion. Around the same time, both plazas were named to the Claremont Marketplace. Fayva Shoes closed in the early 1990s. Perfecta Camera closed in the 1990s. Claremont Triple Cinema closed in 1991. Grand Union closed in 1993. On June 20th 1994, Market Basket opened in the former Kmart space. Record Giant and CVS pharmacy closed in the mid-1990s. Poore Simons and Fashion Bug opened in the mid-1990s. On May 16th 1997, a new movie theater would open back in the plaza called the Claremont Center Cinema. Poore Simons closed in 2000. Olympia Sports opened in 2005. In May 2005, Lake Sunapee Bank opened next to Market Basket. Fashion Bug Closed in Spring 2011. In April 2013, T.J.Maxx would open in the former spaces of Fashion Bug, Olympia Sports, and a restaurant space. During the construction of T.J.Maxx, Olympia Sports relocated to a vacant store Space next to Payless Shoe Source. In Spring 2018, Lake Sunapee Bank was renamed to Bar Harbor Bank. Payless ShoeSource closed in Spring 2019. Olympia Sports closed in Summer 2022. On May 27th 2024, the Claremont Center Cinema closed.
Kmart Plaza
On March 15th 1990, Kmart opened, and the rest of the plaza opened soon after. Kmart was the only anchor of this new plaza, located next door to its former store. In 2005, a Mount Sunapee bank drive-through was installed next to Blockbuster. Kmart received a Sears hometown section in the store in May-June 2006, around the same time the Kmart received a remodel which switched the Big Kmart signage for the Newer 2004 logo. Blockbuster Video closed in the early 2010s. GameStop opened in 2013. Kmart closed on December 7th 2014. After the Kmart closed, the plaza was repainted to blue over the original red paint, Also, the Sears store moved into the former Blockbuster Video store for a few years and would later move its store to Newport, NH. In Fall 2016, Radio Shack closed. On September 3rd 2018, Hobby Lobby opened in 1/2 of the former Kmart Store. On September 9th 2021, the NH liquor store moved from its space next to the former Kmart into part of the remaining space of the Kmart. 17000 Sq feet of the former Kmart is still vacant. On August 15, 2022, Town Fair Tire opened in the former Blockbuster Video/ Sears Hometown store
