The land was originally farmland in the early 60s but was sold and a wayfarer hotel and convention center opened on part of the land 1962. In 1965 the remaining land next to the hotel would be sold and construction of a Jordan Marsh department store would start late 1965. The Jordan Marsh was originally going to be built in Manchester But they rejected the plans so Jordan Marsh went to the town next over (Bedford) and they agreed. The Hotel and Jordan Marsh were built right off the highway that was built in the 1950s. On October 1st 1966, the Jordan Marsh would open. In 1968 a Jordan Marsh basement store / Clearance store would open. The Jordan Marsh would stay the same until They were bought by Macy's in 1996, the store was converted to Macy's in early spring 1996. In 2002 a Carrabba's Italian grill was built in the upper parking lot by the main road. In 2010 the Wayfarer closed after being open for 48 years. The hotel would sit abandoned until its demolition in February 2015. in late October 2015, Macy's would close. Demolition of the macys would start in early 2016 and would end on March 10th of that year. But in early 2015 the construction of a new shopping plaza called the Goffs Mill Plaza would begin on part of the wayfarer's land. The plaza would open April 8th 2016, with the main anchor being Whole Foods. This Whole Foods was the 2nd in NH. Some stores that are next to Whole Foods are Red Wing, Fedex, and later on Orange Theory, and a Bank in the parking lot. In late 2019, construction on apartments would start on the rest of the former Wayfarer's land. The former Macy’s land would be left untouched until summer 2018 when construction started on Trader Joe's in the former upper parking lot next to the main road. On March 29th 2019 trader joes opened. During the construction of Trader Joe's, it was revealed that a new shopping plaza called Market & Main would be Built on the former Macy's land. On May 22nd, 2019 a Friendly Toast restaurant would open next to Trader Joe's, which was the end of Phase One of the plaza. Around this time the Goffs Mill Plaza and the Market & Main Plaza had connecting roads and parking making them one big plaza but both kept their individual names. The construction of Phase 2 would be delayed until early 2022. Throughout the years of its proposal plans got changed around such as a regal movie theater to open and more apartments, which later was changed to not be added. Part of the phase 2 development would end mid 2023 with the main anchor of the plaza being REI which opened October 6, 2023. On September 17th 2024 Sephora opened next to REI. Sometime in November-December 2024 the Plaza's road sign and highway signs were installed. On November 19th, 2024 Sweet Green opened. As of February 2025, the rest of the retail store spaces construction of the market & main plaza is almost complete. Also soon I think they will start the construction of a hotel on the remaining land. This year more stores and restaurants are to open in this plaza .
