The construction of this plaza was announced in 1983, with construction starting towards the end of that year. The plaza consisted of a Shop’n Save supermarket, which opened in late June 1984, and a Zayre department store, which opened to customers in late September 1984. The Zayre would later have its grand opening ceremony on November 12th 1984. There was also a Papa Gino's in the parking lot that opened around 1985. Ames would purchase all Zayre stores in 1988, and would reopen in October 1989 in the Zayre in this plaza. Around 2001-2002, Shop'n Save would rebrand its stores to Hannaford's. Ames would close in October 2002. Around March 2017, Hannafords would start a store remodel consisting of a new facade, a new interior, and removing the old street sign with the Shop’n Save design for a new one. Hannafords would reopen on October 21st 2017. Around August 2025, Papa Ginos would remodel to become a combination Papa Gino’s / DeAngelos subs. As of January 2026, the Former Ames is still vacant, leaving it the last vacant Ames in Northern New England.
