Have you ever played a game that you weren’t expecting to have really scary monsters in them, but they do anyway?
Your answer may vary (“Ja” “Nyet” “The hell are you on about?”), but knowing that Monster Hunter has at least the Khezu and the Giginox, it can’t possibly have anymore, right?
…
What do you mean it has a Giant Spider?!
Meet Nerscylla, another one of the many ugly and terrifying monsters in the game, especially if you’re not one for arachnids. You may notice that it’s not a tiny spider; no, it’s as big as a FUGGIN TWO-STORY HOUSE! No fly swatter big enough can squish that thing; that is, unless you have a hammer in the game.
It has the explosive speed of a regular spider, which shouldn’t be a thing for something that huge. Which means that it’ll be out of your sight before you can even draw a bead on him. And as it moves, it’s always *clicking* as if in anticipation of the meal it’s about to have.
You may have noticed that it’s carapace is a bit on the...ah...gray side. That’s because it’s wearing it’s prey. Nerscylla hunts another monster in the game called a Gypceros, a clumsy semi-flying wyvern that flashes you and spits poison (I am not making this up). It’s grey skin is thick and rubbery, and it’s downright rough to cut through. Now...take a closer look at what’s on the Nerscylla...can you tell that it almost looks like it’s skin is coming off...even though it’s a spider...and technically doesn’t have skin?
If you think that’s bad, you should see it’s relative, the Shrouded Nerscylla: It’s wearing Khezu skins...yes; that Khezu.
Oh, and before I forget, the things that it can do are as what you can expect from a spider...save for one thing: it can put you to sleep. Now you may think, “What’s so bad about being put to sleep in this game?” Well, when you’re hit with something that makes you drowsy, you stumble around a bit before you collapse and sleep for a few seconds. Nerscylla can see this...and will come up to you...and wait for you to wake up...before it strikes at you.
...Holy shiet, this game really CAN get scary.
