HEY ITS NOT THE END OF THE MONTH! 8D This month's DinoDrac funpack has a little bit'o everything, and I'm always happy to get it in the mail, as well as support the great site he runs. I'm still enjoying my Blockbuster box, and this month has some interesting specimens. XD
You know, I don't do a lot of monthly boxes, in fact this one is basically the only one I get regularly, but there are a bunch of neat ones out there. Its a good time to be alive.
And subscribed to J-List's stuff too. 8D
Its clobberin' time with my new pal the Thing from Fantastic Four. Breaks my heart that precious few people seem to get the dynamic of the comic. Like, if they ran it like Tenchi Muyo! and had batshit weirdo aliens and science fiction with an odd family structure, it'd be really good. Instead we get bad movies. @_@ I dunno what's going on, really, folks.
This is kinda a companion to last month's bad guy bag, where I got Hobgoblin, and maybe now I can do photo comics of them drinking beer, eating dried squid and watching Netflix. I dunno, seemed like a good idea when I started typing.
I also like how its Tang colored. I miss Tang.
They'd have gone great with these super addictive cheese puffs. Cheese puff snacks are like my crack cocaine, only its cheaper and I don't have to use needles. These ones were just perfect. Crispy but not hard, gives to the bite nicely, and the spicing was great. Not too salty but not too bland. So basically perfect. I would marry these if I could. Can one get Herr's in California? I'll have to run a search cuz these would be great for summer camp work snacks when I need a pick me up.
I have to work in the summer, despite the fact I'm a teacher. What's summer vacation like? @_@
A smattering of trading cards. Addams Family, Mickey Mouse, classic toys, funny baseballs cards, a He-Man card and some Fievel Goes West cards. That was my favorite movie as a kid, and I'm glad I got some. The Classic toys set are neat cuz they show different kinds of toys like classic Barbie, Viewmaster slides and Kiss Colorforms. Man I wish I had Kiss colorforms. I'd be doing that all day. For more on the Colorforms history, check the wikipedia entry. I think we have a colorforms like product in the spy academy camp in the company I work for.
The Addams Family cards were cool cuz I really liked the movie. But then I love Raul Julia. Even in that horrible public tv movie Overdrawn at the Memory Bank, though it was better than the Lathe of Heaven one. The MST3k ep is good though so if you wanna see M. Bison run around with himself dressed as Humphrey Bogart and have bad video effects, this ep is for you.
Oh hai giant holographic Rita Repulsa sticker. :3 Where have you been all my life? I would have shanked the kid next door to get this in a vending machine. She was my favorite character in the show. MAKE MY MONSTER GROW.
This month's specimen is a small pen like dispenser of chicklet like gum with Freddy Kruger on it. Look, I'm not gonna say Freddy is kid friendly, but he sure did like--you know, I'm not even gonna finish this one.
Doubly interesting is the slogan I got: "The Freddy Nobody Knows". Yeah, the one they put on kids products. I mean, does irony come into play here? Not sure about the thought process, but then again, even adults need to feed their gum needs, so maybe it was for adults or teens liked the movie back then. I think another slogan was "finger lickin good" and I would have liked that one too. XD The red shredded paper is gonna go into another flower like the blue Blockbuster ones from last month.
Goes without saying, the gum is too old to eat, but I wonder if I can coat it with shellac and put it in a bottle necklace. That'd be colorful, and no one would know it came from a branded Nightmare on Elm Street dispenser.
Here's the poster and sticker, which spots a great red DInoDrac. He looks great in red, like he's made of strawberries. Are we sure he doesn't taste like strawberries? THERE'S ONLY ONE WAY TO FIND OUT.
The poster sports a number of trading card packs, all knows I wouldn't mind having. I would say i'm surprised about the Harry and the Hendersons ones but to be honest, EVERYONE has trading cards at one time. Hell, I've made a few here and there, so maybe my surprise should be more aimed at something like plate spinning.
I love the Toys R Us DinoDrac sticker in there. It looks so realistic.
Speaking of, there's like...one in all of San Jose, and its still pretty good, but man, I gotta drive pretty far south in the city for it. I miss the one down the street.
The newsletter and my rendition of the art challenge. I really like doing them, especially on the backs of the newsletter, because Matt always uses color paper, and it makes me have to work a bit harder to consider coloring and highlights. The challenge this month was to combine 2 characters in the funpack, so I chose my girl Rita Repulsa and Morticia Addams to form Riticia Addams. Hey, I like cute but sometimes you gotta go with the sexy. I love empowered women, and you can't get more empowered than both of them. That and I think the wand was fun to draw.
The essay this month was on a shop Matt used to frequent as a child called Do Me A Flavor, which is a pretty awesome name for an ice cream/kids memorbilia shop. It reminds me of last month's reminiscence on the shop I used to frequent, Vallejo Baseball. It didn't sell food persay, but it got its name cuz at one time, and rarely while I used to go there, they sold baseball cards. It was nothing but an anime emporium, with anime goods, fansub tapes to rent and even put up drawings from customers on the walls. That place was my jam. I don't know when it exactly closed but its been gone for ages. I miss those kinds of shops now, though I can find a few around San Jose, but they're all super tiny, about half the size VB used to be in its heyday. Cons, Amazon, J-List and other sites can fill those niches, but I do miss those mom and pop anime stores back in the 90s.
Maaaaan. Good times, good times.
