Back in the day 7 article, I mentioned how Matt answered a handful of spooky survey questions, so I borrowed them and added a few extra ones and then harvested my friends' data asked them nicely to provide answers. So here we go in no particular order, my friends' answers to some spooky questions.
Also, I added the last question and it's been the best, given the answers I got XD.
Survey Questions:
1) Favorite horror or Halloween-themed song.
2) Name something you wouldn't want to run into in a forest or abandoned building.
3) Have you ever played with a Ouija board?
4) Favorite horror or monster villain.
5) What urban legend scares you the most?
6) Do you prefer gore or thrillers?
7) Ever made a potion of some sort?
8) If you got trapped in one scary movie, which would you choose?
8.5) Same as above but video game.
9 Would you veer go to a graveyard late at night?
10) Do you watch something happy after a horror movie so you can go to sleep?
11) Favorite scary book?
12) What was your first Halloween costume?
12.5) What was your favoirte?
13) Growing up, what was your favorite candy to get trick or treating (or what would have been your favorite if you didn't go)?
14) Favorite horror video games or favorite halloween events in games.
15) Your Smash and your Pass horror monsters/creatures choices.
Decon
1) Favorite horror or Halloween-themed song.
As you might expect, I can't pick just one, so here's a couple:
AFI - Fall Children
Glenn Frey - Flip City
Holy Noise - The Nightmare [Power Mix]
Carpainter - Mansion DUB feat. Luigi
Piston Nishizawa - Biohazard [Beast From The East Mix 2]
2) Name something you wouldn't want to run into in a forest or abandoned building.
Bit of a dull answer, but some sort of psycho murderer bastard. Might put a bit of a dampener on my evening.
3) Have you ever played with a Ouija board?
No, though not out of superstition; Hasbro can just go fuck themselves.
4) Favorite horror or monster villain.
I'll give you two. For Monsters, I'm still partial to a good ol' zombie; as far as a horror villain, Freddy Krueger still ranks highly for charisma- you almost forget that he's a child murdering piece of shit!
5) What urban legend scares you the most?
I always thought there was something viscerally unpleasant to the "wake up in an ice bath with a stich on your body and an organ missing" genre of urban legend; a very specific form of bodily violation that, dare I say, gets under my skin.
6) Do you prefer gore or thrillers?
Similar to my stance on Jumpscares; Gore is an extremely effective tool in a horror writer's arsenal when used as such, but if it's all the media really has in the way of scares I tend to find it a touch tiring. I'm a big proponant of atmosphere, dread, and quiet unease in a horror work, and a good Thriller will have all of that in spades- and maybe some gore, if we're lucky!
7) Ever made a potion of some sort?
Does mixing orange juice with Pepsi because the fuckers won't just make a Pepsi Orange count or
8) If you got trapped in one scary movie, which would you choose?
Candyman, because I simply just Would Not Say His Name In Front of a Mirror and avoid any trouble. Cushty.
8.5) Same as above but video game.
Devil May Cry. I wouldn't last a minute, but I'd die to some very good music.
9) Would you veer go to a graveyard late at night?
Buddy, you'd be hard pressed to get me in a graveyard at daytime. The silent cry of finished history amassing in that degree is far too much for the human mind to think about.
10) Do you watch something happy after a horror movie so you can go to sleep?
No, but my relationship with horror is a curious one to begin with in that I tend to engage with it because I find it fascinating more then frightening, so that could be why.
11) Favorite scary book?
I'm a philistine and haven't consumed enough horror novels that aren't aimed at the 8-10/12-15 market, but Dissolvers from the Mutant Point Horror series has stuck in my memory as a good “zombie apocalypse adjacent for teens” type affair- reviewed it on the site some years back, even. If we can count manga, the old shonen/seinen (could never figure out which it would count as) Bio Meat is also bloody brilliant, and a really unique spin on the “mass invasion of horrid monsters” formula, complete with some fairly salient Points™ to make that are still relevent today.
12) What was your first Halloween costme?
I couldn't tell you my absolute first ever, but one of my earliest was a classic Vincent Price style Vampire look; I'd have been about 3 or 4 at the time.
12.5) What was your favoirte?
Ramshackle as it was, I'm still chuffed with how my lo-fi “closet cosplay” of Cyril from The House of The Dead came out- god bless me mum for being willing to spare some of her makeup for it.
13) Growing up, what was your favorite candy to get trick or treating (or what would have been your favorite if you didn't go)?
Almost certainly some form of Dairy Milk or Galaxy Bar. Maybe a Mars Bar or a Twix? Oh, no, those Milky Way Magic Stars, those were dope. Can't beat a pack of Parma Violets either.
Most of these names are going to mean fuck all to you Americans, ay.
14) Favorite horror video games or favorite halloween events in games.
The pluralisation gives me official leeway to make another short list, so;
The House of The Dead 1 (Arcade ver.)
Ghoul Panic
Silent Hill 1
Clock Tower: The First Fear
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
Splatterhouse 1
Illbleed
(dude so many 1's)
15) Your Smash and your Pass horror monsters/creatures choices.
Smash: Anything with Tentacles (honestly, I just wanna know what the hype is all about)
Pass: Any form of the Undead (they'd get bits everywhere; think of the cleanup)
Choco
1) Favorite horror or Halloween-themed song. Oh that's gotta be the "Halloween" theme. That piano theme's stuck in my head for a long time :O
2) Name something you wouldn't want to run into in a forest or abandoned building. Any Body...living or dead.
3) Have you ever played with a Ouija board? Once actually, though it was a long time ago, visiting a friend's spot!
4) Favorite horror or monster villain. Hilariously enough, it's actually a toss-up between Freddy and Jason XD! This is why Freddy vs Jason was a fun movie for me. Dumb, but a fun horror movie!
5) What urban legend scares you the most? Bloody Mary. So much so I don't even want to think about attempting it. Ever.
6) Do you prefer gore or thrillers? Gore. Thrillers stress me out hella o.O
7) Ever made a potion of some sort? I've always wanted to make those fizzy potions that you can drink.
8) If you got trapped in one scary movie, which would you choose? Shaun of the Dead. I think I'd have the greater chance of survival in that!

9 Would you veer go to a graveyard late at night? Oh HELL NAH!
10) Do you watch something happy after a horror movie so you can go to sleep? Always. I get fairly rattled during these, so having something happy after really calms my nerves.
11) Favorite scary book? Scariest Stories You've Ever Heard. However, House of Leaves is getting up there!
12) What was your first Halloween costume? Would've been a baseball outfit, cause I used to do T-ball back when I was young! Later on however, it became Mario as an adult!
12.5) What was your favoirte? Now that's a three-way tossup! Mario is up there, being as I'm the most athletic and free with him, Digby is there because Dio is twin n' she kin become Isabelle, and Detective Gumshoe is there because he's simple, yet the easiest to slip into!
13) Growing up, what was your favorite candy to get trick or treating (or what would have been your favorite if you didn't go)? Tootsie Rolls, and again, it's baseball related. I never knew what baseball players spit out when they played, so at times when ate tootsie rolls I would do that. OUTSIDE, of course! Of course, my ma told me not to do that, but it wasn't until I learned what they were spitting that I figured out why. Still one of my favorite treats. Next to Reeses :3.
14) Favorite horror video games or favorite halloween events in games. Resident. Evil. 2. The game that officially got me into the survival horror series.
15) Your Smash and your Pass horror monsters/creatures choices. Werewolves I would 100% SMASH...as far as passing...Clowns. Even tho sexy clowns are a thing, IT FUCKED ME UP TOO BAD.

Haven’t had one yet. (Wife Edit: His Ghostbusters costume is pretty neat)

2) Name something you wouldn't want to run into in a forest or abandoned building.
Spider of any size. But ESPECIALLY big ass ones.

Freddy Kreuger
5) What urban legend scares you the most?
The "spider bite" really being a boil full of spider-eggs
6) Do you prefer gore or thrillers?
Thrillers
7) Ever made a potion of some sort?
I have not.
8) If you got trapped in one scary movie, which would you choose?
Wishmaster. Play the cards right, I can outsmart the guy at his own game. Worst case scenario, I ignore him, don't make a wish, and I'm fine.
8.5) Same as above but video game.
Phasmophobia. Even if I guess the wrong ghost I get paid! But also, some ghosts are hopefully less homicidal than others. Also, ghost hunting legit sounds fun when not facing death.
9 Would you veer go to a graveyard late at night?
I probably would. No dancing on gravestones though.
10) Do you watch something happy after a horror movie so you can go to sleep?
Nope! If I get nightmares, so be it!

The earliest one I remember was Batman after Batman Returns came out.

BREAK ME OFF A PIECE OF THAT KIT KAT BAR!
14) Favorite horror video games or favorite Halloween events in games.
The Silent Hill series. 1-3 are PEAK horror. Close second goes to Resident Evil.
15) Monster Smash/ Pass
SMASH - Alexa Ashford from Code Veronica. PASS - Henrietta from Evil Dead 2
Dio (hey that's me!)
1) Favorite horror or Halloween-themed song.
Of course the Halloween theme, but some other good ones: Save Theme and ending theme from RE2, the vocal songs from Fatal Frame that Tsuki Amano did, as well as Anju's "Higanbana", Mergo's Lullabye/Music Box theme and Ludwig's Theme from Bloodborne. "Hell Frozen Rain" from Silent Hill Shattered Memories, and Theme of Laura from SH2. I have a lot XD;;;
2) Name something you wouldn't want to run into in a forest or abandoned building.
Something that wants to eat or hurt me. Or barbed wire.
3) Have you ever played with a Ouija board?
Yeah, once in middle school but I'm pretty sure the girls were moving it cuz it gave some weird wack answers XD. Also tried "light as a feather, stiff as a board" but it didn't work.
4) Favorite horror or monster villain.
Sadako has a neat story. Pretty much all the ghosts in a Fatal Frame game. Commander Tarter from Splatoon 2's Octo Expansion, no joke.
5) What urban legend scares you the most?
The Backrooms. The thought of being in an infinite space freaks me out as well as never coming back home. Scary ass shit, but doesn't mean I won't watch videos of it XD;;;
6) Do you prefer gore or thrillers?
I am mild salami and am afriad of gore so thrillers, but if the story or movie is good, I can deal with gore.
7) Ever made a potion of some sort?
I probably have, but I'd wanna try doing it now, since things like shimmer powder exists and I like sparkly things in bottles. I love collecting strange vases and bottles anyway.
8) If you got trapped in one scary movie, which would you choose?
Manos: The Hands of Fate. Make of that as you will.
8.5) Same as above but video game.
Probably Fatal Frame but also maybe Luigi's Mansion.
9 Would you ever go to a graveyard late at night?
I would like to but I probably wouldn't because I don't want to be disrepectful. The exception is a memorial park or a tour because that's the point.
10) Do you watch something happy after a horror movie so you can go to sleep?
Nope, I am dumb, I just go to sleep and have nightmares, and deal with it.
11) Favorite scary book?
House of Leaves, but anything by Junji Ito (except Gyo, that was a read once only kinda deal).
12) What was your first Halloween costume?
The only one I can recall, with photo evidence, is Tinkerbell...but my grandma used to make all my costumes, so I had a lot. One year in elementary school, I was Princess Peach/Toadstool and she made me a mushroom wand. :3
12.5) What was your favorite?
Either Isabelle from Animal Crossing or Jugglus Juggler from Ultraman Orb. So basically cinnamon bun or edgelord bun. I do also like my inkling costume.
13) Growing up, what was your favorite candy to get trick or treating (or what would have been your favorite if you didn't go)?
Anything with caramel, like Snickers, or peanut butter cups, but the best things I used to get were little toys, like vampire fangs or tiny plastic cars. Those were cool.
14) Favorite horror video games or favorite halloween events in games.
Refer to my list earlier in the month for fave horror games XD But generally J-horror or asian horror games. I like a lot of cool little indie horror games. But I also love the Halloween events in Animal Crossing; the trick or treating stuff is super cute. Splatoween was super cool with the music changes and opening filters to the matches, as well as the cool headgear from that splatfest.
15) Your Smash and your Pass horror monsters/creatures choices.
Smash: Fatal Frame ghosts, though Decon's smash answer was hella good XD. The girls in that Dead By Daylight dating sim are cute as hell too; Huntress in particular.
Pass: Undead, or anything rotting/unsanitary. Yuk. D<
Hoping that sampling of questions got you thinking of the spooky season too as we wrap up. Hopeing your last night in Halloweentown is just as fun, and hopefully we'll be back with more articles soon! Happy Halloween!
